If you are looking for a chic food, this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for authentic, tasteful Thai food with the freshest ingredients, then don't miss this place. We originally wanted to dine over the street in the nearby restaurant. But waiting was too long, so we decided to try this Thai restaurant. And we didn't regret it!! Everything was cheap. The curry was probably 11.95 and the fresh catch of the day was 14.95. We ordered the fried tofu, seafood red curry, fresh catch (fish) of the day and the larvae pig. The seafood curry was very tasteful and the taste was very balanced, not too sweet and not too spicy. The seafood was fresh and perfectly cooked. There were large shrimps and Squid and Scallop. For the fish of the day, we can still make it that we want. And the fish was mahi mahi. We wanted the Mahi mahi to be cooked with eggplants and sweet basil. Man! Super fresh and delicious! The Larb pig was a ground pork roast with onions, fish sauce, lime and probably lemongras and fragrant leaves. Honestly, I'm doing them at home, but they did it better than me. You can also do Larb chicken or beef if you don't like pigs. But personally, I find pork the best. I'm from California and we have so many Thai restaurants. But I think Hilo Siam is so far one of the best I've ever been, partly because of the fresh ingredients that we're probably unable to get there. I also think they are really well prepared. If I ever return to Big Island, I'm sure I'll go back!
During a very busy Tuesday afternoon they could put us (group of 15) without waiting. Generally, this is a bad sign, but since the reviews were good, we decided to sit and eat. It helped to have a clean bathroom we could use as we travel with children. The food here was very delicious. Thom Yum soup was delicious but had too much vegetables (mainly cabbage) in it. Breadh was there. Green curry with chicken was cooked for perfection and the fried rice was a good part to share. Try Thai iced tea if you like sweet drinks. Service she is very casual. No formalities or hostesses at the entrance. You go in, waiter greets you and tells you that you choose an empty seat. Avoid the seat of the stand cushion as it is not comfortable. It has no correct back support and I left with a back pain after 40 minutes. Also be ready to spend some time in search of parking. Due to the peasant market, the place is full. Overall good restaurant, which is cheap.
Great service, very friendly and friendly owner, made great conversation, and ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS food with fantastic portions and great prices. Everybody has to go! Also very good and delicious vegan and vegetarian options. One of the best Pad thais I've ever had!
If you imagined great Thai food, than kick it up a notch. More complex flavors and textures. Nice clean restroom and helpful owner makes this a downtown Hilo go to after walking the Farmers Market.
