We could clearly see why they have won awards for over 10 years in a row. Excellent food, reasonable prices, and outstanding service.
Excellent service and delicious food. Had the smoked salmon, superb. Potted shrimps were very good. Venison crumble with leeks and bacon was also very good as was the stalkers pie. All cooked by Eliza. Ice creams were homemade and excellent, sea salt caramel and banana, raspberry ripple and lemon meringue.
Food was well cooked and hot and the service was good. The menu gave a nice but small selection of food from Steak to beef burgers and chips and all in between.
The restaurant is on the first floor of the hotel and is a very tired room with a poor range of mismatched tables and chairs linked to a second room with visible clutter. Service is by a food lift and waiters waitresses who work hard but are poorly trained. Claims to be fine dining but the tables are stained, the cutlery was set incorrectly, the menu is poor and the food was served terribly. Plates some are chipped and servings are not laid out properly on the plates I've had much better food in pubs let alone some medium priced normal restaurants. Pork belly was poor, lamb was o but tough considering time of year and no decent jus. vegetables were poor. The STP did pass muster but eating in this room was not a pleasant experience from a food or setting point of view.
