The Peanut House - Hickory

I LOVE Thai food. I come from the Washington D.C area where I have my choice of Thai five days a week. I recently came to Hickory for a family trip and stopped in to have lunch. This place is by far the best in the area! Love the food and the atmosphere. You have to check this place out when you’re in town.Vegetarian options: Good selection of dishesKid-friendliness: Very laid back environment. Family friendly. Staff are very nice towards kidsDietary restrictions: Plenty of options for someone who doesn’t eat pork or shellfish.

I am a big supporter of small businesses and love to give them positive reviews to encourage people to try them. I often give small businesses a higher review just because i want to speak positively of them.But this place has been too inconsistent for me, so I'll just be very honest here.I have came here atleast 5x before forming an opinion to write a review. I have came here during lunch and during dinner. I have came here during the week day and during the weekend and it's too inconsistent for me.I've made orders on the phone and got hung up on. I've also had times where I called and they'd put me on hold and forgot about me to the point where I just hung up.I've got to the pickup window where I was greeted right away and I've also had instances where I was ignored at the window for nearly 10mins.While dining in, the initial service to place an order was great. But the follow up service wasn't as great such as being provided with utensils, plates, and getting refills or exchanging beverages.The food can vary from being cooked perfectly and flavorfully and there can be instances where the food has been overcooked and tastes bland.From my experiences, the food and service is good sometimes. Other times the food and service is bad.

Small portions for the price. This was my first time ordering and they forgot the rice as well so it was a very small amount of food. They even asked what kind of rice we wanted on the order and didn't manage to add it. Overall the food was okay buy again the portions for the amount of money was not great.

I'm not sure if there has been a recent management change, but my visit today was quite disappointing. We encountered a problem with a menu item that was missing all the seafood listed and lacked the requested spice level of 3. They offered to remake it, which we were willing to wait for. However, we suspect it was simply reheated with two shrimp added back in and the same flavor. When we received the dish again, it went untouched. We asked for this item to be removed from the bill, but the manager said there was nothing he could do and no discount was offered. I expressed my concerns about how this experience would affect our future visits, but once again, no discount was provided. To top it off, the restaurant felt unbearably hot, as it seemed there was no air conditioning in 90° weather, despite our complaints about the heat, which left my kids literally sweating. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. I hope this review reaches someone who can address these issues, as this used to be one of our favorite places.
