I attempted to call for 15 minutes to place an order, but the restaurant's phone isn't working. I couldn't reach anyone, so I assume it's only open for walk-ins.
I happened to walk in after leaving CVS, which is right across the street. Wow! What a fantastic hidden gem! The Margherita pizza was excellent—thin and crispy, just how I like it—not floppy like some other pizza places I've been to. The house salad was really fresh and a generous portion as well. They offer a great variety of drinks, but I should mention they don't have any desserts.
I returned to Miami after spending some time in New Jersey and noticed that Nic's is no longer there. While his sauce and cheese were more reminiscent of New York style, the crust was always soggy and never had that crunchy texture. Now, there's a new place called Al's. They have a better crust, but it's too thick and chewy for my liking. The sauce lacks flavor, and the cheese doesn’t have much taste either.
It seems there has been a change in ownership at Al's. This restaurant used to offer authentic New York-style pizza, but now the pizza is thick, heavy, and lacks flavor. Even the side dishes, like the garlic rolls, are tough to enjoy, as the dough hasn't risen and rested properly, which is essential for genuine New York cuisine.
