Take a look at the picture I posted. 8 pieces of various meats on a wooden platter, next to a Mexican beer. Enjoying my first Brazilian meal while sitting in the beautiful colonial city of Puebla, Mexico. DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS.During one of my group study abroad trips to central Mexico, 10 of us were wandering down Avenue Juarez looking for a good place to have dinner. We stumbled upon this restaurant, likely attracted by its large red sign. We quickly researched what "Churrascaria" was, and feeling intrigued, we decided to give it a shot! We weren't sure if a large group like us would be seated right away, but thankfully we were! The waitstaff recognized quickly that they needed an English speaker to communicate more easily with us (though we could've managed, even with our broken Spanish). We all had an alcoholic beverage (oh, to be 18+ and drinking in Mexico) and were able to order fairly quickly. After trying the salad bar (I'm not sure if that was part of our meal price), our buffet began. I love the system of Brazilian steakhouses (I've been to two, as of now), in that they give each of you a flipping device (either a dial or a double sided card) that has green on one side and red on the other. Green means that you want more food, while red means STOP, no more! What do I mean by more food? Well, cooks / carvers come around to your table periodically with huge stands of meat! They carve you off a piece that amounts to 1-2 bites. Nothing special you say? Not enough food? Again, look at my picture. Within 10 minutes, I already had 8 pieces of meat on my platter. My mouth was open in amazement as they kept coming, and coming ... and carving, and carving! I didn't dare flip my dial to red, as I knew I was going to eat every last bite. I just wanted a picture first before I dug in. And when I did, each type of meat was mouth-watering good! Many of these meats you will likely not find in the U.S. (definitely not in my home state of Minnesota). I would like to think that many of those meats are also served in Brazil, along with a few Mexican favorites. My favorite was the meat with a slice of pineapple embedded in the middle of it! The other steakhouse I visited just gave you a large piece of pineapple, but this one was both meat and pineapple all in one! The meat just came coming, pretty regularly, and I probably ended up with 20 pieces of meat! All that protein sure fills you up, and I eventually had to flip to red. But this experience (and the service) will always be one of my greatest memories of Puebla! iAmo Puebla!
