Paul's House - Hermiston

It's such a shame. This place has a lot of potential, but the staff seems indifferent. During my visit, the employees only did the bare minimum. The restaurant wasn't very busy—just five tables each occupied—but the service felt lacking. Guests weren't greeted promptly, there was no feedback, and not a single smile in sight. I didn’t even get offered a second drink. Someone hurriedly brought my drink, and they served my beer without a glass. I was never presented with a dessert menu or the bill; I had to ask for the bill in the end. I noticed several other tables experiencing the same issues. It’s unfortunate because the food was quite good, but they didn’t offer any sauces, and everything was drenched in gravy, making the dishes a bit soggy. I won’t be returning because of the service. They processed my payment without any questions, and normally I leave 10% for decent service and 20% for excellent service, but this was definitely not the case.

This is my third time staying here, and I continue to have a great experience. The bar area is well-decorated and has a pleasant atmosphere. The food, drinks, and breakfast are all excellent. The location is ideal—situated in a tranquil part of the city and conveniently close to major attractions. The rooms have some nice touches, including decent coffee machines, unique lighting, and very modern, clean bathrooms. The beds are comfortable as well. Overall, the service is good, though some staff members are more attentive than others. One downside during this stay was that I needed to turn in early for work the next day, but the music from the bar below was quite loud until late in the evening. Additionally, there were some noisy conversations outside my room by midnight involving another guest and the night porters. Despite this, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

The next morning, we received a charge of an additional £57 on top of the £60 we already paid for our stay, as they alleged that we had smoked in the room, despite none of us being smokers. They had already attempted to deduct £57 from my friend's bank account without permission, but that transaction failed. They kept insisting on having a card to charge the money. We were frustrated because we were being falsely accused, and then we felt threatened with the possibility of the police being called if we didn’t pay. It seemed like they were trying to take advantage of us because of our age and make unjust claims for their own financial gain.

I visited this place for 1 night in May and I would not recommend it to anyone. I had bug bites on my legs and arms and it was just not a relaxing place where I didn't want to sleep again. there was mold in the bathroom and the ceiling. The hotel people called us in the middle of the night and woke me when I worked the next morning and they told me I smoked in the room when I didn't smoke. The next morning they let me play 57€ cash after I paid 60€ for the room just because I am young and they thought they could get cash from me, although I did not smoke and blackmailed me that they will call the police. They said they could smell it when the window was open, so it must come out. Overall, I would not go back, I did not enjoy it and would not recommend you to go.

My friend arranged for four of us to meet up for the Sunday Bottomless brunch. Great menu to choose from and also selection of the drinks was very good. We all decided on the roast beef dinner which was excellent with many vegetables and a giant Yorkshire pudding and the desserts were really good. Great service and pleasant staff. Very good value.
