You will honestly think that you'll never get there, but it's a beautiful drive and definitely worth the trip. Delicious Swiss food and the world's best peach cobbler! The restaurant is charming and the people are wonderful. It is a personal fave!
The Hutte in Helvetia, WV is a quaint century old farmhouse turned restaurant in an rural hilly area settled by the Swiss around 1860. The Hutte situated by a small brook with rocky banks is cozy and beautiful. When the sun sinks low the wild animals (deer, ducks and rabbits, etc.)come out to play. The Hutte s interior d cor is mostly antiques, and most of them looks like they could have belonged to the original settlers. My friend (Marie) from Hagerstown, and myself (Paulette) from Arlington, VA, traveled to our hometown of Buckhannon where we were joined by several of my family members from the Buckhannon area. We drove the curvy, twisting 20 plus miles to the Hutte on July 20th, 2011 for a birthday celebration for my nephew. Everyone loved the cheese and bread, the salad was fresh, and the dressing was YUMMY, YUMMY. We highly recommend the sauerkraut, bratwurst, rosti (fried potato patties), but suggest that more than one side dish be offered (not everyone has a taste for peas). A few years ago I had the pleasure of dining by the pot belly stove as I gazed at a snowy scene through the window. .a beautiful sight. Utterly secluded, but definitely worth the trip.
The road going in was something else. But The Hutte Restaurant was worth the ride. The place is something else. As cool and neat as it gets here on the planet. Food was great and Kayla was a very friendly waitress. Thank you for having a place like this for travelers to go.
Traveled to Helvetia, WV, today and ate dinner at The Hutte Restaurant. Food was authentic Swiss/German and quite enjoyable. I enjoyed the brautwurst meal with kraut. Many years ago, I lived in Europe, and I have to say that this food was comparable! Building is old and historical, cozy and filled with antiques. You have a choice of rooms to dine. Nice quiet, private, quaint and cozy dining experience for our anniversary!
