Contribuiți la feedbackMy son and I visited Samui Thai on a cold Thursday night, at opening time. Having driven past it so many times, I thought we should visit. We were very warmly greeted by Mint, the partner of the Chef. We ordered spring rolls and money bags (a special of the night). Both were fresh, crispy and delicious. The money bags were a particular hit with my son and he's a Thai aficionado, even at 6 years old. Awesome, he said. He loves salt and pepper squid, so we had that and that too was awesome, he declared. I had the mussaman beef, one of their specialities, and it was delicious. The special Thai fried rice was a winner too. Great grub.
We called in off chance but it seemed that everyone was in for the long haul as we couldn't get a seat! We waited for a while but ended up getting Take a way.Was frustrating though because we wanted to use an Entertainment Guide voucher but of course we couldn't for take a way.Food was very nice.
Wandering the familiar haunts around little Burnside, it's pleasing to see a thriving cafe culture developing around the 'village' style centre at the corner of Glynburn and Greenhill roads and the big roundabout. The old police station, the landmark Feathers Hotel and the long-standing often transformed shops at Waterfall Gully. Then there's a quaint old strip opposite 'The Precinct' that has always been hampered by difficult parking. Some stalwart traders have persisted, but there are a couple shops that just keep turning over. In one of these premises, I noticed Samui Thai has appeared and revitalised the patch with a neat and compact Thai cafe. It was a Monday night when so many suburban eateries are closed and it was refreshing to see a decent crowd occupying half the capacity of about 25-30 places. As with most Thai restaurants, service is prompt, courteous and cheerful. The menu consists of all the Thai favourites, but the blackboard is where the surprises are, so we started with a shared 'money bags' and chose the Curry Crab ($25) and Kana Moo Krob ($21.5) (pork belly) for mains, both of which were excellent. If I wanted to be picky, I'd say the touted 'crispy' skin pork belly was a little more like bacon rind but otherwise tasty.Wine choice was limited but appropriate with glasses around $8.So mix up your Burnside dining experience with a splash of Samui Thai. (Parking is easiest on Glynburn Road, near the 'Gully shops)
Trust me, I am Thai! I felt just like eating my mum's cooking. Foods were amazing and very authentic. Southern Thai foods were veryyy yummy, worth to come. The owner and staffs were also lovely. Boys n girls please come :)
Food was outstanding! We had the special yellow curry soft shell crab, I highly recommend getting this if it's on the menu again, along with fried rice and the choo chee prawns. Everything was delicious. I was also really impressed with the friend rice as it was fresh, not oily and lots of veggies (not usually my pick!). Service was quick and friendly. They managed to seat and serve us even when they were basically booked out. We had a 6 year old with us who had the pandas chicken and ate it all - he's usually very fussy! They were also very accomodating by giving us some pencils for him too draw with while we waited for food. In and out within an hour with full bellies and easy on the wallet! Will be back again and again...
