Marks Spencer Tea Room - Havant

This café is located inside the M&S food shop in Waterlooville. It is very basic in terms of décor, with simple tables and chairs, white walls, and a high ceiling. The photos on the TripAdvisor site accurately represent the café, as it resembles a utilitarian warehouse canteen. However, it functions well as a café, offering good coffee and a limited selection of cakes, paninis, and toasted sandwiches. The service, while acceptable, can be slow and somewhat detached. The café received a 5-star rating from the Food Standards Agency during its last inspection in March 2023. The toilets are located at the back of the food hall. Overall, the café may not fully align with M&S brand values and does not necessarily make the food shop a top choice destination as one would expect from a marketing standpoint.

The changes implemented due to COVID have had an impact on the restaurant, particularly with the confusion surrounding the reopening of the store entrance. There is inadequate enforcement of mask wearing and no staff checking for compliance.

Enjoyed a high tea here on two occasions. New social distancing works ok in the cafe section although they have taken away the security guard making you wait for a table

Like all M and S coffee shops, the coffee at this location is individually prepared which may result in a wait. However, the staff here do their best to accommodate customers. Sometimes, it seems like there is a shortage of staff which can lead to longer wait times. I understand their situation having worked at a M and S cafe in the past. The selection of hot food is limited but usually delicious. The staff here are always friendly and helpful. My only critique is that when they are short staffed, the tables are not cleared promptly and the floors are not swept underneath. I empathize with them during these times. Additionally, I wish the serviettes were larger. Despite these minor issues, we visit frequently, even if just for coffee.

Here for breakfast, a limited menu choice for breakfast items including prepacked baps. Service was good and when the baps were heated and delivered they tasted very fresh and good. So good quality food, satisfactory service but a limited menu.
