As a celiac person, I found the options in Harrison Hot Springs to be pretty limited. So when someone in one of my celiac groups on Facebook recommended Black Forest to me I thought we'd give it a shot. I'm the only one in my group who is celiac. They had an adequate kids menu so that's always a bonus. They said they could make any of their schnitzels gluten free and our waiter seemed fairly knowledgable about the menu. We went for the early bird (before 6:00) menu which was limited but more reasonably priced. I had the Vienna schnitzel but paid a surcharge for GF and a surcharge to have chicken instead of pork. It came with some "pan fried" potatoes, steamed vegetables, and some sort of cabbage slaw. The Vienna was just a basic preparation though and was fairly tasteless. The potatoes were okay but I always think of pan fried potatoes as sort of crispy and these were a bit soggy and very heavily flavoured of onions. The steamed veggies were BARELY cooked. And honestly, I'd rather have them on the undercooked side than the over cooked side but they were basically raw and warmed up a tiny bit. The slaw was NOT GOOD. It was like a cabbage jam almost. Very sweet and slimy. Not my palate at all. Others in my party also had the Vienna schnitzel and the Bavarian meatloaf. We all ordered from the early bird menu and I'm glad we only paid in the $15 range for our meals rather than the $25 range from the regular menu as I would have felt pretty put off by paying that much for what we got. The service was great, the food was adequate and I didn't get sick. But I can't say I'd go back again. To be fair, German food has never been a favourite of mine and if you wanted to order off the regular menu, there were lots of other options that looked like they might be more flavourful, but I probably won't give it another chance.
As zöliakie I have found the options in harrison hot springs to be quite limited. So if someone in one of my zöliakie groups recommended on facebook black forest for me, I thought we would give him a shot. I'm the only one in my group that's celiac. they had an appropriate children's menu so that always a bonus. they said that they could make one of their carving gluten-free and our waiter seemed pretty familiar with the menu. we went for the early bird (before 6:00) menu, that was limited, but more reasonable price. I had the shiny ****, but paid a price for gf and a price to have chicken instead of pork. it came with some "pan fried" kartoffels, steamed vegetables and a kind of caraway. that was just a basic preparation and was quite tasteless. the kartoffels were okay, but I always think about pan-fried potatoes as a kind of crispy and that were a bit soggy and very strongly flavored by wobble. the steamed vegetables were boiled barely, and honestly, I would rather have them on the boiled side than the overboiled side, but they were in a round raw and warmed a little. the shiny was not good. it was almost like a cauliflower. very sweet and slender. not my palate. others in my party also had the cranny schinitzel and the Bavarian meat dew. we all ordered from the Early Book menu and in the glad that we only paid in the $15 series for our meal times, instead of the $25 series from the regular menu, as I felt quite pulled out by making so much for what we got. the service was great, eating was sufficient and I was not getting sick. but I can't say id goes back. to be fair, German eating was never a favorite of me and if they wanted to order from the regular menu, there were many other options that looked like they were more tasteful, but I will probably give it another chance.
