Papagayo - Hamilton

Came here for lunch and had the chimichurri, loved it! Super filling too! The service was good and quick (we were the only ones there).

Overall it's wasn't bad but it also wasn't good. Would probably not try this place again. Not very authentic flavours with some misses. The complimentary tortilla chips were way too salty! I ordered the combination platter and the mini chicken chimi was more outside dough than filling. Odd pairings with Caesar salad. High note were the chicken tamale and deep fried ice cream for dessert. Parking was difficult too in downtown Hamilton.

I am really not sure how to rate this place, but here it goes. The service was ok, there was only one person waiting the tables on a Friday night. She was very nice though. But, took a long time to get to us, and to get our drinks. The margaritas were, how should I say, ****. We had the fried calamari for an appetizer, really not a Mexican thing, but it was excellent. The nachos were good, not the greatest. Guacamole was really poor, and you get only a small amount. What's with that? We had the seafood chimichanga, and the combo platter. It was all good, not great though. And, get this, it came with a Caesar salad. Are you kidding me? The sauces were really good, not sure if they are house made from a can though. If a Mexican restaurant can't make a half descent margarita and a great guacamole, well..... Still looking for a good Mexican place in the Toronto, Hamilton area. This one is not it.

A restaurant with moderately dated decor. But you come here for food not what it looks like. The food here is rather legendary in Hamilton as many people know what this restaurant serves. I have had a few of their dishes such as their quesadillas which were really delicious and portions reasonable for lunch. And it certainly is not like any fast food Mexican meals.

My wife and I were visiting Hamilton and in the mood for Mexican. We were not disappointed. The service was very friendly. The food was quite good and filling. We didn't have a very long wait. We ate at 5pm when they open. And throughout dinner watched a steady stream of people come through the door. Must be a good sign I thought. Everything seemed to be made from scratch. My wife had cheese cake for desert that we were told they made it in house. It was very good. I had a coffee and it was perfectly brewed. And strong how I like it. Overall, very good experience
