This small restaurant is intimate and funky with fun playing music in the background. We were greeted by Joyce that we believe... is the owner, and she explained the menu and emphasized the favorites. My husband wanted to try the oxen pig, but the ticats were just there and cleaned. We started with samosas and fish kebabs. Delicious! Then I had the very recommended Ruck chicken salad. The chicken was warm, moist and perfectly seasoned. My husband had the pig he really enjoyed. Joyces hospitality is worth mentioning; she is a beautiful woman who does something that she does not only passionately, but really good and she makes a serious effort to authentically connect with her customers. We enjoyed finishing the meal with the homemade mango ice cream. This restaurant offers a great experience at a great price. I look forward to trying their Irish Moss soda next time, apparently another Ticat lover.
I heard about a new restaurant that offers a Caribbean menu and had to check it out. Upon arrival I found myself in a very intimate, comfortable restaurant with quiet and relaxing music. I was warmly greeted by the owner who explained what she... in a meal and how she wants every visit to be a food 'experience'... and it was. I enjoyed the watermelon old juice $3), very refreshing, and a jerk chicken salad $8). This salad was an adventure filled with delicate, juicy jerk chicken, green, blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, grapes, seeds, avocado and a creamy dressing... So delicious! After our meal, the owner declared that she had a musician on a Wednesday night, as well as an 'old school' karaoke on Thursday nights. Seems like being the place, I will definitely be a returning customer!!
Our original destination was the Peruvian restaurant next door, but when we found a closed for private party characters, decided to it 's a food thing... and were glad that we did it! The waitress was very friendly and helped us choose authentic Caribbean cuisine. We found the...jerk pork mild and a bit tough, but the oxen pig was a beautiful case of the bone tender, sharp meat and huge butter beans? in a tasteful sauce. The side salad was spinach, full of fruit and had a tangy dressing that was a perfect contrast. We'll try again, more...
We went to King and looked for a place for lunch when we took a side street on a pipe and I'm so glad we made it! This place is amazing. The best falafel I ever had by far....I usually don't like falafel, but the taste and texture were just perfect. My partner had Ruck Huhn what he said was also fantastic. We also tried the plantains (delicious!, home made watermelon juice, and home made hot cocoa. Everything had its own personal flair and so much taste! The owner is a beautiful woman she took the time to chat with us when we were done. We'd come out of town to eat here. I can't wait to go back!
I found this place to have pretty easy access for a downtown core. The quaint setting and friendly service were most welcome to me after a rough day of traveling. The hostess/waitress was sociable, polite and thorough as she explained her menu items to me...and catered to all my needs this is more impressive for a 1 woman show! I would definitely recommend this place, and I will certainly return again on my future trips though Hamilton.
