Daruma - Hamburg

Daruma is a place to go, when you want to experience real Japanese cuisine. Just don't forget to make a reservation!!!

A little bit out of the way, this nondescript little gem is absolutely fantastic!A family run affair, husband in the whites and wife front of house (with the help of the daughters and possibly granddaughters?).We had a mix of maki and nigiri and all was absolutely top drawer, so fresh and with a dollop of PROPER wasabi, not green mustard like you get in most places. Followed by some fantastic tempura and cleansing green tea ice-cream we would have happily paid twice the EUR50 we were charged (including sake and a couple of beers).Don't be put off by the decor, which is admittedly a little tired, these guys do it for the love of food not for the glitz.

This is a place that unless u know about it, u cannot find it.it is a mom and pop place where the owner is the chef and his wife the hostess plus sometimes family members who are waitresses.. the dinner menu is great. we never know what we are getting but love the surprise it is like eating with family... the decor have not changed since the 60´s , it seems but we love the family and we love the foodwe are always welcomed as family and they are very hospitable.

Very basic interior, but authentic food, personal. Wasabi on everything! Homemade green tea ice as an extra from the chef.

The dishes are quiet similar to Japanese ones. I feel like being at Tokyo. The cook and his wife are so kind. Wanna visit there again when be back to Hamburg.
