New Wing Wah - Halifax

New Wing Wag is perhaps the best Chinese in Halifax. They do authentic dishes as well as 'Canadian' Chinese food, and they do it well. My go to is always the General GAO, singapore noodles and egg rolls. All fantastic and a good amount of spice. A few months ago there was an issue with my order and I accidentally got someone else's order. They fixed the situation for my next visit no questions asked. As well I inadvertently got to sample some other dishes that were also top notch. The place looks a bit run down, but don't judge books by their covers!

Within 20 meters in Spryfield there are 3 Chinese restaurants. You can't go wrong with any of them we have eaten at all 3.This one we prefer the takeout for a family. Their dinner for three is good and reasonably priced. Their chicken balls are home made and mostly chicken as opposed to all batter. Their veggies are not overcooked and they don't use too much salt in anything.They are the mid price place. Across the street is the cheapest Chinese food in all of Halifax at Hop Sing. The other Chinese restaurant in Spryfield is more expensive than these two and marginally better.

I have ordered from New Wing Wah numerous times, I always noticed the prices seemed higher then the menu. We double checked online to make sure we had the right total, when we pick up our order it is $10 more? They said the prices online menus were outdated, fine okay I get it. Small business and all, maybe not having the resources to update price. Then we got home and the food seemed a little soggy. We dig in anyway and halfway through we are both sick :( sad to say I won't be returning!

Food is always Fresh and Tastes so delicious. I ordered Beef Fried Rice 3egg Rolls and Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls. YumYum

Don't let the exterior fool you. There is some good chinese food served here. We especially appreciated the hot food - served in small batches and replenished as needed. Veggies were well cooked and still crisp. Won Ton Soup was exceptional with meaty won ton and chinese cabbage in a flavourful broth. Other dishes that stood out were: Beef with Broccoli, chicken chop suey, chicken with mixed vegetables, BBQ Pork, Won tons, Spring rolls and Egg rolls - Buffet is 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm Friday to Sunday
