It was crisp, but light as air on the inside, while maintaining a perfect chew. The quick pickle on the carrots was exactly the level of acid the sandwich needed. I got the chicken signature banh mi, but I added pate to bring it a bit closer to the Vietnamese staple. I would be hard pressed to think of a better banh mi I've had, anywhere. I will definitely be back.
I've tried most of the pho restaurants in South Jersey. Here are my observations. The noodles are slightly softer than al dente. Great. The beef is, simply, the best quality and the best well prepared. The star is the broth, aromatic, depth in flavor without being overbearing. So I can honestly say its the best pho in the area. On their website they claim to strive to be great at a few things-and they have succeeded.
Pho Ha Bac is a relatively small restaurant with only two tables and there seem to be some very small renovations going on. We tried the Grand Combination Noodle Soup #1), the Grilled Pork Spring Roll Vermicelli #25), and the Grill Pork Banh Mi #16). We decided to eat in the restaurant and the pho and vermicelli bowls came in take-out containers, with chopsticks and plastic utensils like a plastic pho spoon. It made me wonder if Pho Ha Bac is more of a take-out place or because there were still doing some small renovations if that was why they did not come out in regular bowls. Both bowls had great portion sizes and tasted great. The pho was super flavorful, packed with lots of meat, although I wish there were a bit more noodles. According to my significant other, he felt that the bread in the banh mi was a little stale, but what I noticed that it wasn't the typical Vietnamese banh mi baguette. I would like to come back and try other dishes. The customer service was great, friendly, and welcoming. Parking can be tight. 3.5/5
I love this place but their phones never work to order. Today I tried To call and I thought I’ll just drive over they open at 11. I got There at 11:15 and they were not open. It’s getting frustrating to get stuff from here. Does anyone know if the hours online are wrong?
