Despite being a guest at the establishment, when I asked to see a menu, the uninterested waitress rudely claimed they were full. The unimpressive fish and chips dish she was carrying did not inspire much confidence. It was clear there was plenty of space available if they bothered to serve their customers properly. Avoid this place, as well as the below-average accommodations that are overpriced and resemble a hostel.
I met a friend at this restaurant. The lamb was microwaved, with one side cold and the other side frazzled. The vegetables were overboiled. The menu was reminiscent of a rough pub from the 90s. I did not stay for dessert and will not be returning. However, the staff were lovely.
The restaurant has a nice view, especially if you get a window table. However, if you don't, it feels like a brightly lit canteen, which doesn't create the best ambiance for an evening meal. The staff were polite and friendly, but the food was mediocre. I ordered the lamb shanks with leek mash and red wine and rosemary gravy. Unfortunately, I couldn't taste the rosemary and it was used sparingly, leaving the mashed potatoes dry. I ended up pouring leftover gravy from my partner's steak pie onto my mash to make it more palatable. We were charged £20.95 for the lamb, despite the menu in our room stating it was £18.95. Overall, the restaurant could improve by dimming the lights and paying more attention to detail.
The restaurant is part of the Management Centre accommodation. If you are staying there then it is a convenient place to eat. Breakfast is excellent. For evening meals there is a pub-style menu; scampi and chips, vegetable curry, haddock and chips, pie and mash etc. We ate there on two evenings. The food is unremarkable. The atmosphere in the large open dining room is more “canteen” than restaurant. The staff are presumably students; they were very friendly but rather unsure what to do. Perhaps they were new. We asked for a coffee with our desserts. We were initially told coffee wasn’t available, then the waiter came back and said that they had asked in the kitchen and that we could have a filter coffee, so we ordered two coffees. After 30 minutes wait we gave up on the idea of finishing the meal with a coffee, paid the bill and left. Perhaps our expectations were too high. The rave reviews on Trip Advisor, photos of beautiful dishes and the reference to Welsh cuisine make you think it is going to be rather special. It isn’t special, but it’s OK.
Amazing food , well presented by professional staff. We were stopping in the University hotel, so ate breakfast every day, and also a couple of evening meals Had to wait for space on a couple of occasions at breakfast time but wasn’t an issue as it was bank holiday half term so expected Very apologetic staff at all times , overall a really nice experience
