Contribuiți la feedbackAs the newest addition to the great cafes in Station Street and having replaced my old favourite Alfio's my wife and I have visited twice.Ambience is great and the outdoor area next to the church is nice. The menu is reasonable though it's perhaps a bit hard to find something really light. The second time we were there the kitchen was coping with a large table's orders so our service was a bit slow but the manager did pop over to explain. So add more than one light option and I would give it a 5.
Absolutely horrible service due to the arrogance of the head chef. Due to my dietary requirements I asked to have a dish alerted slightly. He refused in plain sight of the customers. He was incredibly rude and made me feel uncomfortable and embarrassed. The waitress was lovely however and apologised profusely for his behaviour. I left hungry and humiliated.
Some girlfriends and I decided to try this place after one of my friends had seen a post/tag on Instagram. When we saw the post, we couldn't wait to sample everything on the menu. James' Bistro serves Tapas, Mains, salads and decadent desserts (which they rotate every season or so). We decided to try their tapas dishes - Grilled Ciabatta bread, Spicy JB potatoes served with with a tomato and coriander salsa, Chorizo and mushroom tossed in butter with green Sicilian olives; and Salt and pepper squid with lime and mint aioli. Another friend opted for a main - Seared NZ Salmon with a warm nicoise salad with a tangy lemon dressing, which looked divine! All their dishes were reasonably priced and they had a good selection to choose from. Speaking with some staff, they mentioned that they are looking to add a pizza range to their menu, which would be advantageous. Unfortunately, in this instance, we had no room for dessert, but we will definitely be back to this Fairfield gem, hungry and with a huge sweet tooth!
Having been recently opened by local restaurateur extraordinaire Tona Inthavong of Holy Basil & Green Peppercorn fame my friends and I had to try out his latest venture, a break from his norm of Thai / Lao cuisine, a modern Australian menu. For entrée we had shared a serve of the salt & pepper calamari with a nam jim aioli. It rocked!Between the three of us we hit up the beer battered fish with triple cooked chips (me), pork belly and lamb’s neck. The boys were kind enough to let me try each of their dishes too and I have to say the braised lamb’s neck melts in your mouth and the pork belly is heaven. The fish & chips was good but I was sooooo jealous of the other two. I did however hit the kitchen up for a side of nam jim aioli for my fish as it was so much better than any tartare. For dessert we had the lychee mess, the chef’s take on an Eaton Mess, a pannacotta & a Creme Brulee With Salted Caramel Ice Cream. All fantastic and all recommended.Let me just say there was no stop of at Macca’s for a cheeseburger to top off after this meal. Complements to Chef Kim.
I liked this Funky little bistro, it felt like i was in surry hills instead of fairfield, it has a very simple menu with not too many choices but the food
