Maddison Cottage - Guildford

I took a friend to Maddison Cottage today for her birthday, which I had booked a couple of days earlier. I was really surprised when the waitress serving us said that we would receive a 'complimentary' drink and the drink was the tea. Perhaps I am missing something here but I had assumed that tea was a crucial part of the high tea. It has always been included in any other high-tea that I have attended. Other than that, the food was lovely and the setting was charming and when you have finished your 'complimentary' pot of tea you can brouse the shop to pick up a quaint gifts.

Food was good but service was not... Trouble making the booking with difficult staff. Had to wait about 20 minutes to be served and hard to get attention of staff thereafter. We ordered vegetarian for one of the girls and they provided a separate vegetarian tower with chicken sandwich on it? Luckily we picked up on it before it was eaten and they replaced it. Other than that the food was nice and the decoration is cute. Air-conditioning wasn't ideal and was rather uncomfortable even on a autumn day. I wouldn't want to go there in summer...

Looking for an amazing high tea party experience? Keep looking, as you won't find it here!! Booked for a party of three, and I was required to pay for one person to hold the booking. Fine - I thought this must be good!! How wrong I was. Service was terrible. Food was below average. You get ONE CUP of tea or coffee and then have to pay extra for more. It is expensive for what it is at $34 per head. Decor is cute, but kinda in a tacky way. Needless to say, we all felt completely ripped off and won't be going back again.

A few friends and I had High Tea one Sunday afternoon to celebrate an anniversary.  We considered it very poor value for $38 - for each person there were three little sandwiches, two minute quiche (the size of 20 cent coins), a scone with jam and cream and three overly sweet little cakes and a cup of tea.  The standard needs to be raised when charging this much money

Our high tea experience was fantastic! This little French type restaurant exceeded our expectations. There was ample food and they accommodated our BYO wines (they only charged $2 corkage each). The service was excellent and food delicious- still thinking about it. One little let down was that the delicious teas were only one pot each. I would have thought that high tea had endless tea as all the other high teas I have been to previously. The best tea was the T2 French earl grey tea. That said, I would be excited to go back with my girlfriends!
