Over the years we’ve played many rounds of golf here. John, the pro is great and has developed Springfield into a really good golf course. The course is always in great shape. The value for the price paid is excellent two golfers for $87 all in is pretty fantastic. Springfield’s greens are generally on the slow side and don’t generally have a ton of break. The only downside to Springfield is the closeness of some fairways to others which results in lots of people yelling FORE while you play.
This golf course is very scenic and challenging at the same time. Even though I was on a power cart, I did do a lot of walking, which was fine with me, but I know I wouldn't have been able to walk the entire course. Not sure if it was members of Springfield or just public golfers, but I found a lot of them did not have or show much golf etiquette to other golfers, including their maintance crew who continued to motor past you while you were on a back swing. It was a very hot day, so we quit after nine holes and went to the patio for a drink. There was one table for two left vacant. It was in direct sunlight, so I moved it over about three feet, nowhere near another table and basically got chastised for doing that. Then the waiter asked me if we were going to eat or just have a drink. When I told him just a drink, he told me I was okay to sit there then, but basically not for long. Really? Then our waitress came over and she too chastised us for moving the table into the shade. She took our order, we drank and we could have left without paying, however we are too **** honest for that. So the golf was good, but the service on the patio was little to be desired.
Nicely kept. Pleasant views. Even in drought last year was worth playing. Stayed for dinner in the dining room average fair for golf course.
It was getting on for lunchtime as the Brock Road turnoff came into view on the 401 and my companion asked if I had ever eaten at the golf club up the road . Assuming he meant the Springfield I answered in the positive and said that 'Fish and Chip Fridays ' were pretty good. Not being Friday we agreed to see if we could get a table. Luck was on our side and even though the restaurant was busy the friendly staff found us a spot near a window overlooking the very green course. Thank you Mother Nature for the rain, but enough for now, eh? The lunch menu is extensive and we both settled on the Turkey Club, mine with fries and my companion went for a bowl of warm Chicken Noodle soup. Service was fast and came with a side order of warm smiles . . . always appreciated. But what a sandwich! Thick, tasty bread and stuffed with goodness — a great Turkey Club. Frankly enough for lunch and possibly half could have been saved for dinner. As it was we both enjoyed every bite. So much for my diet! So once again Springfield and the friendly staff ticked off all the boxes for a pleasant lunch. Then it was back down the road to the 401 and work.
