Papa Jays Southern Quezine - Guadalupe

I had the pleasure of attending a Black Excellence event in San Luis Obispo catered by Papa Jay's, and I must say, it was a fantastic experience. I'm not typically a fan of smoked BBQ, which seems to be everywhere these days, but Papa Jay's is a different story. Every dish they served was absolutely delicious: the ribs, chicken, hot links, Creole rice, mac and cheese, and beans were all exceptional. The owners were warm and welcoming, making us feel like family. I only wish I lived closer so I could visit more often. I encourage the locals to support this wonderful place!

It used to be a nice spot to enjoy something unique. Back in November, they announced plans for remodeling and said they would reopen in a month. Now it's almost March, and they're still closed, with no signs of any renovations taking place. It seems like they're less reliable than their biscuits!

I really love the food from this place—it's very reasonably priced, and the portion sizes are great. My favorites are the sides and the sweet potato pie. You should definitely stop by and get some takeout. There isn’t much seating for dining in, though.

Delicious Southern cuisine! I absolutely love the macaroni and the red beans and rice. The po' boys, fried chicken, gumbo, étouffée, and meatloaf are all fantastic! The owners are also incredibly nice. Highly recommended!
