Easy eating served in the middle of the local. salat and entrée, where completely fresh and absolutely wonderfully prepared.
We heard about this family owned Austrian country restaurant in the Lower Austrian town of Gross Weikersdorf, located in the Wine Region, from friends in Vienna, and decided to go out and visit it. It is associated with a very nice three star Bed and...Breakfast (Pension Christine), where we spent the night. The restaurant, now run by Andreas Maurer, is a typically Austrian country restaurant, or Gasthof. It is informal, with a tap room in the front and a larger dining room with table cloth settings in the back. They also have some private and party rooms. The main menu is typically Austrian, and when we went there, they had a special wild game menu, as it was in season. I learned that they have periodic specialty weeks, featuring seasonal foods. The food is prepared by the owner's wife in the kitchen. Service was informal, but excellent. We started our meal with a superb regional white table wine, and then switched to the delicious Austrian tap beer with the main course. My wife had a Fridatensuppe (beef soup with sliced pancake), and I had a Leberknoedelsuppe (liver dumpling soup). For our main course, I had a Wild Boar Schnitzel with potatoes, and by wife a Venison Roast with gravy and bread dumplings. We both had their mixed house salad. The meal was ended with a Cappuccino and home made Apple Strudel. The food was tasty and of excellent quality. We expected an excellent dinner, but the meal exceeded our expectations. Although this restaurant is about 45 minutes outside of Vienna, it is worthwhile to go there for both a typical and enjoyable Austrian meal, and also to see the region and the quaint town that hey are in.
Gars am Kamp is a very interesting city, loaded with history and geological sites and this comfortable Gasthaus.we ordered traditional food, a soup and a Gulasch and man was that good, real hime-cooked typical dish and tasty tasty tasty.same with their range of tartes and cakes, they have an adjoining bakery.service was nice, prizes just fair
Excellent and quick service, but not very personell, sometimes service staff, which has only weak knowledge of german language. Food is excellent, but even sitting in the non smoking area, smoke is disturbing the probably good taste of food provided
