Main Street Deli Cafe - Greytown

'What a pity people choose to remember anything bad, no matter how small.... '<br/ I 'm often reminded of this quote and it looks like it applies to Main St. Deli.<br/ <br/ I eat here often (weekly) and find the food excellent in preparation, taste and presentation. It 's fresh, range is extensive and ample portions come from a busy kitchen.<br/ <br/ The service is always courteous and unobtrusive. The staff are not equipped with paint on smiles as is often the case elsewhere and (thankfully) don 't wish me to 'have a nice day '..<br/ <br/ I 'm happy to wait while someone constructs my meal. If I wasn 't, I 'd eat at a chain burger dispensary. Perhaps some have forgotten, dining out is not about grabbing running.<br/ <br/ If I didn 't enjoy the experience at Main St. Deli, I wouldn 't eat there..... but I do.

I have been visiting the deli for at least ten years now. I've been lucky enough to have a great experiences almost every time, today included. Even on a busy day (Martinborough Fair), our service was friendly and efficient. We enjoyed eating in the shaded outdoor area (apart from the flies). My eggs Benedict was tasty, although I'm surprised the ciabatta wasn't very toasted. My partner's chicken burger tasted fine but came with barely-cooked fries. Coffee is ok. As always, the extensive counter selection is superb. Hopefully the deli will retain the quality it's been known for in years to come.

I don't know what all these bad reviews are about. I went to Greytown recently with my mother for a weekend stay over and we ate at the Deli the first afternoon we got there and then they couldn't get rid of us! The food and service were both so great we just kept going back to the Deli (even after checking out a few other places for pretty much Breakfast, Lunch and Tea.<br/ I loved it there. The coffees Hot chocolates were great the food was really really yummy and sitting outside in the sun in their nice set up out the back was lovely too. The service was wonderful (partly why we went back so much our waitress that first day was so nice and made such a good impression her daughter was working there too and was great as well . Our visits there were the highlight of our trip! Nothing beats good food and good company.<br/ <br/ Mum and I thought it was top notch all around :

I see some of the older reviews are not good, and I have to say that the service (and food) has improved a lot over the last year or two. I live locally (Featherston) and I do eat at the MSD now and again. I have noticed in the last year that the service is much improved (new owners?? I think so).Not many places make a decent Chai Soy Latte, and these people do.Yes, I will continue to eat there, and recommend it.

The display cabinet features an incredible variety of dishes, including pies, salads, and pastries. We enjoyed breakfast here twice and tried their poached eggs with chorizo on Moroccan flatbread. It was definitely a more adventurous take than the usual eggs on toast. The meal was delicious and fairly priced. The service was fast, and the staff were welcoming. The decor created a warm atmosphere, and the courtyard provided a lovely spot to catch up with friends and family. This is undoubtedly the best café in Greytown!
