Although it can sometimes be a bit slow to get a server, I've noticed significant improvements in their service quality compared to my previous visits. Our server was incredibly friendly and attentive, taking our order and answering our questions while regularly refilling our water and offering the delicious complimentary chips and salsa. I tried the Baja fish taco for $4, and it was fantastic! The crispy battered white fish was served on a flour tortilla, topped with a creamy sauce and pickled red onion. Every bite was packed with flavor and expertly crafted. The decor remains vibrant, with the Day of the Dead art and lanterns adorning the downstairs area, while the upstairs and patio maintain a lively dive bar atmosphere. I also really enjoyed the fire pit and had fun trying out the ring swing game!
Taco Tuesdays are fantastic! Their tacos are absolutely delicious. My favorite is the shrimp and grits with their amazing jalapeño cheddar grits; I order this every time without exception. A new favorite of mine is the flat iron BBQ—oh my goodness, the tender pulled pork topped with fried onions is incredible! Their enchiladas are also quite impressive, especially the ones with butternut squash.
To put it simply, I would have rated this place just one star if it weren't for the happy hour deal on margarita pitchers ($12 for a pitcher that served five generous glasses) and the enjoyable time we had playing trivia. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The tacos were bland and served lukewarm, plus it took an eternity to arrive. The cheese dip got cold while we waited for a chip refill, and it took 20 minutes to get it reheated. To top it off, they ran out of chips before 7:30 PM—how does a cantina run out of chips? The restrooms were just as you might expect from a cantina. The service was incredibly slow, possibly due to staff shortages. We did have fun with the trivia and will likely come back for that and the margaritas, but I'll plan to eat somewhere else beforehand.
The fried avocado taco was amazing! Very good Mahi Mahi tacos as well. The chips salsas were very good. My hubby enjoyed his beef bowl as well. Pina Colada cake was a delicious choice for dessert. The sweet tea was perfect. Server was attentive and very friendly.
Gringos's has a really great atmosphere! I'm so happy to have stumbled upon it and extremely glad I went in. The walls are hand painted and they have many hand painted chandeliers. It is really colorful and is a really fun little cantina. Gringo's has two bars, one upstairs one down and a few different options for seating areas. As the weather has always been nice when I've gone I opt for the roof/outdoor area. If it is nippy out, they have a fire pit they lit. The rooftop is a really fun little area with games such as big jenga and some rope and hook game. The menu is simple enough, many different types of tacos all well priced. I am pretty plain when it comes to tacos so opted for the OG seared shrimp. I do wish I was brave enough to try like the buffalo chicken. I've tried a few drinks and all were tasty! One thing I love about Gringo's is that the owner is really hands on! We saw him bringing food to a table and engaged in pretty good conversation with him before finding out it was his place. All the staff is super friendly, the food is yum the decor/vibe is perfect. (Tuesday's are Trivia taco Tuesday night Wednesday's are karaoke night!
