Nicely surprised. I'm Schwartz, if I want smoked meat, I'm going downtown and waiting for Schwartz. Two days ago, my friends suggested we try Dunns. It was in a Friday night, so in downtown smoked meat with traffic was a big nono. At Dunn's we ordered the plate of smoked meat sandwich with friends, Coleslaw and half a dill. When the waitress asked what kind of meat, make sure that you say fat, because all slimmer than medium and it is not the real savory smoke meat experience. Try great, slightly lighter than Schwartz, but definitely really good. For all people who complain that things were dry, don't get the leaner that get fat. You eat smoked meat, it is not healthy, just enjoy it.
I'm not a big fan of smoked meat, but never had Dunn's been so excited to see how it would be compared with lester's and black. I smoked the club roll meat sandwich and it was really good. A bit salty, but this is to be expected for smoked meat and salami sandwich. the frits were also great (I first ordered the potatoes, but they did not have them in the night, so they gave me sauce for free, which is very nice of them). What made it such a big evening was the service, we were a big group (30the people) and not only did they have the room to accommodate us, but each order was punctual and correct. The waitresses were super nice and I know how hard it can be to watch a big party, but they did it with ease. Great for big groups!
I was a little disappointed with our meal. Me and my husband had both smoked meat plates. The frits were cold and seemed to have been boiled several times. Dried and shrunk and a black color. I am usually a fan of the Koleslaw, but this time there was a brownish gray view of the claw. As it looked out at room temperature or was not covered. And the real taste was just blazing, almost old. The waitress said they're making the shaving every day. Maybe so, but they missed the freshness on this stack. The smoked meat was just okay, not at all. I won't waste my money here again.
Good food, good portions, and great service. The price has gone up a lot, I am guessing because of inflation and supply chain issues, but it still kind of sucks. Still a good deli experience on the south shore cannot fault them for something happening globally. I just wanted to have my say.
