The Heritage - Grand Rapids

I’ve always wanted to try Heritage Restaurant, especially because they provide a great learning experience for aspiring culinary students. We made our reservations by phone, and the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating in finding a time that suited our schedules a couple of weeks in advance. The food was outstanding for the price! We did get a bit lost trying to find the place, as it seems they were in a temporary location during our visit, but the prix fixe menu was delightful, featuring a variety of options for all food enthusiasts, including appetizers, main courses, and desserts. The students are doing an amazing job, and overall, it was a wonderful dining experience that offered something unique. I highly recommend visiting and trying out their seasonal menus!

There were four of us, and we made it a point to order a variety of dishes to explore the menu. I tried the duck confit cotton candy, which surprised me in two ways: it was much larger than I expected, and there was caramel hidden inside the cotton candy cone. The duck itself was delicious, with the fat perfectly rendered. One friend ordered the Hamachi Kama, while another got the mushroom parcel and the quail egg cloud. I sampled the quail egg cloud, and the texture was fascinating—with the quail egg concealed under meringue, making for a delightful bite. Overall, everything received high marks. My scallops were cooked to perfection, and the curry sauce was outstanding. I personally would have preferred the fennel to be a bit softer, but that's just my taste. The demi-glace on my friend's steak was incredible, and I found myself envious of the pork chop he ordered. I should mention that if you're in a hurry after dinner, this may not be the best place for you. They're still learning, and the supportive mindset is essential for your visit. So please, don't be that person who complains about the wait or requests off-menu items. From my experience at another culinary program's restaurant, the service speed here is quite normal. We enjoyed the dessert but had to take it to go because our friends had a show to catch. Thankfully, the napoleons held up well, even after a few hours. I would return in a heartbeat and believe it's an excellent place to experience fine dining at an accessible price point. It's a low-stakes, high-reward situation!
