Mertens Prime (formerly New Mertens Brasserie)

Space looks great. Has a good feeling, imagination, impress your date imagination. The food was okay. Wait for training, but he did it well. Management might have helped him. All in all do not really think I will be back, not really my personal preference.

The first time in, and it's one of my favorite places in Grand Rapids. The food was fantastic, not cheap, but good value for money. I definitely recommend the French onion soup. The steak was simple, but perfect. I love the cocktails on the menu. Service was just a little out, they were slow to clean the used dishes, and too fast with the second course we were still busy on our soup when the steaks came out. The dining room has a raw/unfinished/old time vibe that almost makes it charming, but feels a little dingy instead. For me, food and value are what counts, and I will definitely go back.

We went out to celebrate an action so we only have drinks on the rooftop bar. The atmosphere was all you want and had a great view of the sunset over the city. Beverage selection was minimal, but the quality was great. Very cute decor and is furnished, not overcrowded. You could still be in your own little room, with bumping shoulders. Also, the staff did not try to push you out of the door so that they could make tables. We could enjoy a beautiful sunset and a few drinks with out feeling haunted to leave or buy food. Definitely a must do while you are in town!!

I have drinks and a little snack at the rooftop bar. It was a beautiful ambience. Nice view. I loved it. A bit expensive, but it's worth it. We split the pig bell. I couldn't go wrong. The only thing I could say was the hostess.

Wow, this place is still great! We visited awhile back when it was still called New Hotel Mertens. It hasn't lost any of the charm that made it great. The building and ambiance is a delight, and the service is what you'd expect for an upscale meal. Both our dishes were fantastic, and the Duck à l'orange is one of the best we've had anywhere. We also took a visit to the rooftop bar, which couldn't have been more perfect. Absolutely great all around, thanks to Mertens for making this a special day.
