Forty Acres Soul Kitchen Cognac

We were really excited to try Forty Acres, but unfortunately weren't impressed. The staff was incredibly nice. The music inside is incredibly loudly grateful, it was nice outside and the terrace was a little quieter. Definitely do not plan to have a conversation when you sit inside. Hubby had the Shrimp Po Boy with macaroni and cheese and pommes. The po boy was small and not the most tasteful. I had chicken gumbo with greens, grits and cornbread. The gum was a big part. Unfortunately, the rice was not completely boiled and it really lacked the whole taste, somehow it was almost sweet. The Greens and Cornbread were amazing! Crispy and sweet for maize pulp, but not dry. The greens were beautifully spiced and a scourge. I'm not an expert, but these had a great texture, but no taste, maybe that's the norm? Our son had the fried chicken plate with macaroni and cheese and fries. The chicken looked great, but like other items we ordered did not have much taste.

The southern kitchen was on the spot. We shared the family plate and had more food than expected. It felt like Thanksgiving dinner. Brendan was our waiter very knowledgeable about the menu and the great service. In my opinion, this place is one of the best new restaurants in the city.

For the first time here. The service was friendly and fast and the food was phenomenal! I have a rubber bear that was as authentic as anything I tasted in the Middle West, and my father has catfish that he could not stop. We also got gizzards as an appetizer and they were cooked for perfection. This is probably the best soul food you will find in Michigan and we will often be back.

First I want to apologize to any tables that sat near us last night, as we were the group who would take a bite and say “WOW” every 3 minutes. Vegan and Southern grits were amazing, one friend had a platter with fried chicken and sweet potatoes and Mac and cheese that was great as well, and all of the drinks were very thoughtfully created. The service was sweet as well. Can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend!

I experienced great food, service, prices, and ambiance. I highly recommend the vegan soul rolls for a starter. I will definitely be back!
