Southern Star Inn - Goulburn

Being a local I have not visited this place for quite a few years but decided to join a group of 8 visiting Goulburn for dinner.While the restaurant is a nice venue the food was disappointing, we decided to have a banquet and while some dishes were ok others were not, the beef vindaloo was no vindaloo, very mild, I was hoping for hot sour spicy and got none of that, the lamb Rogan josh was ordinary with some very chewy lamb. You get the impression they have dumbed it down for local taste so authentic it's not. The service was slow and it did take a while to get the food out. For a country town I guess it's what you would expect, just okay Indian food but don't go expecting the real deal, for real Indian food you will need to go somewhere else

The food was outstanding. I can not recommend this place enough. Go past the decor and you will thoroughly enjoy yourself. I will be back.

Visited this place and had a worse experience. Reached a little late around 9.30 and the lady behind the counter said we cannot allow you to sit and eat. you can take away. There were customers already eating in the restaurant. I was so tired and hungry after a very long drive from Gosford to and fro in a day. But, the girl was so blind to see that. I had nothing other than a coffee entire day. I was sat outside the restaurant and finished my food. I thought to put the bags in the bin so I went inside and asked if I can use the bin to a gentleman. He said we are closing and the bins are done. WTF!!! I should have used your bin like face.

After spending the last 3 years in London and sampling what they say is some of the best Indian in the City, none of them have a patch on this place. Would have to be the best Indian food I have ever sampled. Such a shame the service isn't up to scratch. Would suggest they add extra staff on busy nights as service way to slow due to understaffing.

We had dinner here last night. We spent the meal having wait staff pounding past us back and forth loudly on loose floorboards. The staff were flustered and irritated with each other. "Can you stop standing there and go and take some orders??"The interior of the restaurant could use updating. The noise and shaking of people walking on floorboards was very irritating and made us leave instead of staying for dessert.One waiter in particular made peculiar comments throughout the evening. "That ought to do it" when ordering, "get a load of this" when serving .. Honestly I just don't need the pep talk, especially interrupting during conversation and chewing, to ask "are you almost done with that?"The food was actually really nice and I was pleased to taste a crispy bubbly naan clearly made by an expert with the right equipment.Polish up your showmanship guys cos that's the only thing holding you back.
