Magic Wok - Gosport

This Chinese restaurant is usually our top choice for takeout, and we always order the same thing. However, tonight the hot and sour soup was disappointingly sweet, indicating that a key ingredient was missing. When we called to inform them of the issue, the response we received was very dismissive and rude. They simply said, "This is how we make it, if you don't like it, don't order again." Despite explaining that we have always ordered this soup and have never had a problem before, they offered no apology or solution. Unfortunately, the soup ended up in the trash. It's a shame, as we will not be returning to this restaurant.

We ordered a takeaway from here as we had been pleased to find some proper spring rolls at last. The spring rolls, again, were excellent. Sadly, the rest of the meal was a tad disappointing. We asked for prawn kung po. Whatever was delivered was not prawns at all, but possibly tiny pieces of chicken in a heavy batter. The rice was claggy. There was an abundance of onions in the curry. Will probably buy spring rolls again, but that is about it, sadly.

Have used regularly with same take away dishes ordered. Have noticed recently dishes like special fried rice only appear to contain peas some beans but no shrimps or char siu or pieces of egg omelette they have also put prices up but reduced quality

I have used it for years and probably too much! but always hot and fresh with attentive staff, the owner takes pride in what she does and this shows!

We love large spring rolls. Since Tim left The Kwok Wah, we have suffered cabbage stuffed, or thick doughy batter or tasteless grey gunge filled spring rolls from various outlets. Thank goodness when we found that the Magic Wok version is full of bean sprouts, pork etc. as they should be! Our other meals were a Chinese curry (rather too mild and a Thai green curry (very hot! Both could do with a little more seasoning. Chips or fried or boiled rice were only an extra 30p. Excellent value. Will return, if only for the spring rolls.
