The Swan At Streatley, Coppa Club

Attempted to check in early (at 15:00 instead of 16:00) but told room not ready yet, so had cocktails in the bar overlooking the river, then moved to another bar and had a drink in the garden (all very pleasant) while waiting for receptionist to call and confirm the room way ready no call receptionist then seen having something to eat on her break at 16:00). Then the fun begins! Went back to reception, Manager checked us in and given room key, lovely river view suite, but wait there’s car keys, clothes and food in the room. Whoops given the wrong key (or so we were led to believe), another key given, but wait keys to a dark dingy room with no balcony (river suite’s meant to have a balcony) certainly not what we’d booked. Back down to reception I go, sorry sir there has been an error with the booking and no River view suites available!!! Shown a few rooms available and one that is half decent so we take it. At least we were given a discount on the room (but still paid the going rate for the room we were forced to down grade to), free breakfast and a bottle of Prosecco and the offer of a free room upgrade the next time we visit hotel. Sadly I am a nurse and my wife a midwife with 3 children so nights away happen very infrequently. To top it all off at checkout we find out the couple who had complained about their room and been upgraded (checked in literally just before us in the queue), who’s room we initially went into had actually he been given our room!! Honesty from the start would have been a small step at managing their error but this eluded the initial manager. On check out the duty manager was at least a very polite and apologetic man, so a positive at least. The hotel itself is lovely and the food very good, but a little concerned some of the servers in the restaurant would stroke people’s dogs and then carry on serving without appearing to wash their hands. Overall a great shame as we had been looking forward to celebrating my wife’s birthday and our anniversary without the kids, but the whole experience has left a very bitter taste, not what we expected. Walkability: Beautiful walks along the river Thames.

A fantastic stay at the Swan. Right on the river, over looking a wear and a bridge its a lovely location. We stayed in the Loft which is a nice room seculted at the top of the hotel (as you might expect). The King Size was comfy and the shower was great. Alos good value. We had an excellent stay at The Swan. The rooms were of the highest standard and the food in the Coppa Club is excellent. Staff were helpful with our slightly awkward check-in time. Worth the money. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Luxury

My wife and I drove from Coventry to visit friends. As it was our wedding anniversary, our friends booked this place. The table wasn't ready on our arrival, so they rushed to clean one. The started was nice enough. Then the main turned up before the starters had been cleared away. My main, which should have been quite a simple dish was awful. The linguine was dry and very egg tasting (raw almost) and the prawns were way overdone. Possibly the worst meal I've tasted. I had one mouthful and returned it. It was awful. I was offered an alternative, but I declined as wasn't feeling it at this point. Such a shame, as the surroundings were so lovely. Never do I feel the need to leave negative reviews, but in this case felt I had to. So disappointed.
