The place itself is nice, but the food was average in my opinion, though other people I was with liked their food, so it could be depending on what dish you order. The sevice is quite average too. The food was late even though we preordered, and they were out of multiple items.
We ordered wine and received fermented compote. Menu only in Georgian. After 20 minutes of waiting for our order to be taken, we left.
It was reallly nice dining in this restaurant. the portion was extravaganza, and the was food fairly good for me.
I had lunch there 2 days ago, the place is very beautiful ; the food was not bad but i have seen much better. And unfortunately the waitress wasn't welcoming at all. No smile, no trying to understand foreign accent, and she was not communicating or explaining anything, nor even looking at us. One meal i wanted was simply not available, without any apologize. Most of all, everyone at my table had received their meals, and i was the only one not getting anything and having to wait 20 minutes more. Finally, at the end the money she gave me back was unfair and i was unable to explain it correctly because she already had taken my bill away and refused to even check it or understand what happened. So rude and really far away from the georgian welcoming and sharing culture that i had always experienced until now.
We dined in two restaurants in Gori and I liked Joseph better. The menu showed the photo of each dish, which was helpful. Our guest house recommended Joseph for Khinkali and indeed they were nice. We also liked other food we ordered. Credit card payment worked. The another restaurant B didn't have photos in the menu and the English translation of the menu was difficult to understand. Their credit card system didn't work. A few notes: when we dined in Joseph we were the only client and it was a little intimidating but I suspect local people don't dine in a restaurant casually and it was a weekday afternoon. Both restaurants we dined had a huge menu and it would be impossible to have all these dishes standby everyday. There were few clients in both places so if they stocked lots of fresh ingredients they would be wasted. So I imagine some of the dishes which are not so popular are precooked and stored in freezer. I then imagine vegetable dishes such as mushrooms and potatoes are likely to be made fresh as they don't freeze well. And indeed we enjoyed these dishes.
