O Galo - Gond-Pontouvre

This is a Portuguese restaurant with no airs and graces. You sit along long tables with everyone else (we took our small dogs in without a problem) and then you start eating. You begin by serving yourself soup and whatever takes your fancy from the buffet. Then it's a choice of 2 main meals, this is followed by a magnificent range of desserts or cheese and then coffee if you desire. The meal is accompanied by your choice of red or rose wine and of course, bread. All of this for 13 euros! Today the restaurant was packed at lunchtime and particularly full of manual workers always the sign of great value and copius meals. The serving staff were polite and friendly. Don't go here if you want elegant surroundings and fancy plated meals but if you're looking for a filling, authentic and incredibly good priced meal give it a try. We'll be back to see what an evening service is like.
