The patio was surrounded by small bushes that gave a sense of privacy. The rooms were situated so that the other rooms were not visible. The second story rooms had no patios, so I am glad we did not stay in one of those. The room itself was updated and cute. It consisted of one King bed and two armchairs with a table between them. There is a small bathroom and closet, a coffee maker, and a dorm-sized refrigerator. The resort itself if gorgeous! There are condos overlooking the water on a cliff, or on the beach, or in the hills. Unfortunately the resort is understaffed, especially in the few restaurants; and they are not always open. If you arrive later at night there may not be any place to eat, even in Glen Arbor. Cavanaugh’s is a grocery that has great pizza and can be ordered and picked up, and they sometimes have a buffet that serves food by the pound. But no sit-down service. Cafe Manitou (on the beach) had slow service due to being understaffed, and the food was not very good. Whiskers was the out-door bar that was also understaffed, with usually one to two bartenders who also took the food orders (no waitstaff), and the wait could be long at times. Nonna’s was not open. Most of the waitstaff are interns from Jamaica. The garbage receptacles by Whiskers sometimes were overflowing, and someone put their leftover food around the corner on the ground, which was still there a day later. Overall, this is a breathtaking place that is understaffed and overpriced. A vacation rental is probably a good idea if you do not want to use the pools or weight room.
Food was amazing super fresh. We had a burger, the veggie burger (black bean veggie mix burger), chicken sandwich, fried green beans, hummus pita. Hummus was red pepper the best I’ve ever had. Fries were crispy perfect. Everything was delicious fairly priced. Would definitely go again!
We Loved The Homestead. It is a Wonderful Place to Stay. The Staff and area are beautiful. And the Bar by the Beach is a great place to hang out. We did not go to Nonna’s or that area but people there looked like they were totally enjoying that area. And there is the Sound of Laughter at night coming from many of the condo screened porches. The Reason I gave it a 4 is that while beautiful and very well situated it is on the higher priced side. I just think people should be aware that does carry a bit of a price tag.
We stayed in Sundance 7 on July 23-24. This is a 3 bedroom, two story condo right on Lake Michigan. It is well furnished and has a nice balcony. View is gorgeous. However, we paid a LOT of money for this rental. When we checked in we were told that the refrigerator was not working and was being replaced during the next week, but that two mini frig units had been put in. This is not really OK. We were 6 people including two children. That was not enough room and no freezer. In the morning we discovered the coffee maker had the wrong pot with it which rendered it basically non functional. My daughter went and objected to the refrigerator situation and we were given a small credit. THEN on the second of the only two mornings we were there, at 8:30 in the morning, 4 men arrived stating they were there to install the new refrigerator. We should have refused them entry. Checkout was at 11:00 and we were still in our pajamas. But they came barging in and started banging on things, took the front door off the hinges, in and out. I made my displeasure clear. Finally, when they had the old refrigerator pulled all apart and were talking about turning off the water to the unit !! , someone obviously told them to get out. They put the door back on and left without a word with the job half done. When I checked out I reviewed this whole scenario with the front desk person. She typed something into the computer and told me it had been noted in my record. No apology. No offer of any compensation for this major annoyance and inconvenience in our very expensive rental. So, bottom line, the property is simply gorgeous. We enjoyed the beach, the pools and the Cafe Manitou. But it is not a five star resort if there are major missteps such as this, and not so much of a word of apology or explanation either at checkout or thereafter.
Great family resort, close to some of the most beautiful spots in Michigan. 10 mins away from beautiful Glen Arbor, Crystal River, the sleeping bear sand dunes, pyramid point, fish-town Leland, and Mi wineries. The Resort property is just gorgeous within the woods and on Lake Michigan, and stunning views. My family visited in late July and the weather was just perfect to enjoy the two beautiful pools and beach. Kids want to return next year!
