Ginger Cafe - Gilroy

Stopped here during lunch time on a Sunday. The restaurant was not overly busy with dine in orders. We were promptly seated and had menus quickly. Started out with cream cheese crab puffs which were really good and came out hot. From there we ordered the Shanghai pork dumplings and tamarind seafood hotpot. Both items were delicious. The dumplings were steamed well and had a great filling with sauce to pour over them. The tamarind seafood hotpot was not your traditional hotpot but was really great. It came put together already in a container but arrived hot with a little flame underneath to keep it hot. It had various types of seafood, fish, calamari and shrimp along with some veggies and a wonderful broth that had a nice sweet and very mild spicy flavor. Between splitting the appetizer, dumplings and hotpot we were full but not overly full. The larger dining room was really nicely set up, was a bit cold but tolerable with a sweater. Overall the food was really good, service was good and hoping to visit to try more soon!

Talk about fresh. Good flavorful, crunchy, yummy tasting food. Dumplings were amazing! Not doughy tasting. I loved the Pad Thai the best though, just the right amount of flavor! Atmosphere, seating was nice. If sitting next to the bathroom it is a bit smelly and didn’t really enjoy that. Overall though I would go back for the food. Worth it :

When I arrived we saw 6 tables free. But still I had to wait 15 min to get a table. Once seated, the Waiter told us they were behind with the food. We ordered and really after 1/2 hour we got our appetizers, 30 min after we got our main dish. I was so hungry.

This is my go to restaurant in Gilroy to fuel shopping or travel. They have a nice lunch menu. I have had the curry and some other stir fry dishes. My one sensitivity is that the fried food is upsetting. It is like the food is in the oil too long and the oil flavor is strong. Service is good. Tables are clean. Restrooms could be improved.

When I mentioned I have a gluten allergy, the waiter brought over a GF menu! Really enjoyed the salt pepper prawns! My husband had some dim-sum appetizers and said they were also delicious.
