Tout ça pour 24.- ? je n'y retournerait plus ça c'est sur ou du moins pas pour une pizza.
This is one place I always enjoy going back to. Chef Domenico does a great job in preparing surprise meals. The trick is never to look at the menu but to ask him to come up with something and he usually does, with flavour, style and lots of mouth watering food. His wine selection is also great as he imports these directly from Tuscany as he does with many of his food and food items. Truly a place that takes you back to the past with a fantastic dining experience.
Trattoria Toscana is a small but cosy and authentic Italian restaurant that is not to be missed. Unpretentious with a personal touch. Forget about the menu. Just tell Chef Domenico your preference, what you don't it and leave it in his good hands. I told him that I don't like gamey meat and his spontaneous offer of legumes (vegetable) soup for starters and turkey for mains suited me very well. The main came with roasted chestnuts, grilled pear & lemon among others. The turkey was just right, not too dry and lighted battered with fragrant biscuit crumbs was scrumptious! This was washed down with Italian Red and finished off with a shot glass of Italian brandy! The service staff was friendly, polite and attentive. Overall, it was a par excellence all round. Miss this at your own peril!
I've resisted reviewing this place for about two years as I was afraid it would get too popular and I'd never be able to get in again. But after at least ten visits (maybe more), I've concluded that more people need to know about it. I don't think I've ever seen it with more than 2 other people in, and that's a great shame. The chef is a huge shambling man who always greets us personally and explains what's on the menu for the evening. As everywhere in Geneva, the prices are eye-watering but at least here your taste buds can water in pleasure at the same time. I've never eaten anything less than good, and most things are excellent. The pasta, in particular, is some of the best I've ever eaten outside Italy (and better than much that you'll find in Italy!). The house wines change from week to week and are uniformly wonderful. The mixed antipasti plate is an ever-changing surprise as well. In summary - highly recommended. Go. But please leave at least one table free for me.
Une terrasse agréable, proche de la gare et des hôtels, des plats typiques italiens, des pizzas feu-de-bois aussi à l'emporter, des pâtes aux bolets (saison), des desserts "maison", excellente adresse malheureusement peu connue.
