It is available to all: Museum patrons and passers-by. A semi-self-service cafeteria (it includes a grill, a selection of hot or cold sandwiches, pizzas and meals alongside self-serve soups, a salad bar, etc. , it is less expensive than similar museum cafeterias (no doubt because they wish to attract the passing trade. If weather permits, you can eat on the outdoor terrace with its view of Parliament Hill and the Ottawa River.
The self-serve restaurant is not as fancy as the bistro beside it, but the prices are cheaper. The coffee was decent and the pastry was satisfactory. I only tried the desserts so I can't comment on the quality of other items.
This is the cafeteria associated with the Canadian Museum of History (lower level). It provides a nice view of the Parliament Buildings across the river. The cafeteria is self-service and offers soup, salad bar, sandwiches and a limited selection of hot meals. The food is good and is not over-priced for a place like this. The staff is friendly and service is good. There are selections that will appeal to kids.
The food was mostly self serve, but had a salad bar which you don't see very often anymore. Selection was great, quite and comfortable setting.
Very nice cafeteria with great salad bar and many other choices e.g. Pulled pork sandwich and beer is available also. It is a lovely big seating area with neat red chairs. We sat outside on the patio with a beautiful view of the river and Parliament Hill. Prices very reasonable.
