Black Dog Cafe - GALIANO

Cosy seating in a covered tent or you can sit by an open fireplace. The dishes are all made by hand including the sauces and soups. A lot of the flavouring come from their garden! It is fantastic and is my very favorite spot for lunch on Galiano!

This tiny cafe with a huge heart serves consistantly delicious food. If you are a veggie or a vegan you will be in food heaven. But don't worry meat eaters you are catered for too.I would of eaten here every day, the only thing that stopped me was it wasn't open every day ;-)

We just about went by this little lunch mobile vehicle. We had stopped to visit another restaurant across the road and it was closed, so we went to investigate this one. This little place looks to be put up with spit and polish and little more. There are eating alcoves outside - one with some cover from the rain and sun. Otherwise it is very rustic. The tables give the impression of not being very clean and are sticky to the touch.The food is reasonably good as the ingredients they use are fresh and local. I enjoyed the feeling of homeyness but the woman at the counter where you order your choice was distant and cold. She seemed to greet the locals cheerfully so perhaps she didn't like outsiders....I have to admire their attempt to set up a small business with little assets but perhaps a few extras are need to make this a flourishing concern.

We tried lunch at several places on Galiano and this was definitely a favorite. It has a great, quirky/casual "hole in the wall" ambience. If you are not a local you'll have to look for it, though it's in a central meeting place - directly across from the market on Georgeson Bay Road. It also has limited hours; as of this review Wed-Sat (I believe) 11:30-2 pm, though drive by to check their chalkboard. The staff/cooks were friendly and ambience was casual/charming. Though an earlier reviewer mentions lack of seating there are now a number of quite comfortable outdoor tables with cover from the weather/sun. We had no trouble finding a seat; they even provided magazines while you wait. The menu is short but the food was eclectic, fresh, and delicious. My husband and I both ordered the bison burger which was juicy and came with good quality veggies and tasty sauce on it; sides of potato wedges and coleslaw. I could also have eaten anything else on the menu, which included a daily soup, veggie burger, rice bowl, and an Indian veggie wrap. I liked many of the places we ate on Galiano just fine but this stands out as one I wish I had gotten to visit more than once.
