Towards the back, you'll find booth seating and high tables. While this setup works well for drinks, dining at the high tables can feel a bit awkward. Interestingly, I've noticed that people actually queue at the bar here, which is something I've never experienced anywhere else in the world! Hunters Hall is a decent spot for a quick or affordable meal, making it an ideal starting point for a night out in Galashiels. The crowd here is quite diverse, and it's one of the few Wetherspoons locations that plays music. You can also catch major sporting events on the screens here.
Spoons! JD Wetherspoon has arrived in The Borders. If you're in search of affordable and typical food, along with budget-friendly drinks (except for the wide selection of craft and cask beers available), this is the place for you. Being a Spoons, it's not the most dog-friendly venue, but there are a few outdoor tables where you can enjoy your meal with your furry friend.
Unfortunately, that's where the positives for Hunters Hall end. The interior is starting to look quite shabby, lacking the cozy sofas that used to be available a couple of years ago, and many of the wooden chairs are coming apart. The fabric on the booth seats is worn thin, the walls are marked and chipped, and most of the pictures have seen better days, often stained with something resembling vodka and coke. Additionally, if you’re near the doors, it can get pretty cold. Nonetheless, its affordability, spaciousness, and relative lack of competition keep it as the go-to pub for those under 30 and a necessary pit stop for anyone looking to enjoy a night out in town on Saturdays. The staff turnover is quite high, with few long-term employees, but most interactions are polite. However, there is one long-term duty manager who seems to lack patience and has a poor attitude towards customer service. For instance, during a recent encounter, when I mentioned to him that my friend had bought me a warm bottle of beer, his response was dismissive: "What do you want ME to do about it?!" It certainly reflects the saying—you get what you pay for.
Spoons as it is lovingly known is the perfect place for a quick post work pintthe comfy sofas and warm atmosphere make it a great place during the week for a quiet drink. The beer and burger offer is great too should the after work pint turn into seven. Once strange thing about the pub is the queueing habits of the drinkersit must be about the only pub I have been in where people form an orderly queue along the bar and wait to be served rather than push straight to the frontand oh the looks you get if you do not take your correct place in the queue! Other draw back is the really addictive quiz machine which has nearly bankrupted me on several occaisionsstill a great pub thoughgo for it!
Great Wetherspoons pub. The beer is excellent and even better its cheap. And I think thats whats so good about Wetherspoons pubs your money goes further and thats what brings you back and back again. The food is hit and miss I think the only thing fresh are the steaks the rest is either deep fried or microwaved but its cheap. But I think you know what you are getting and the prices match this. Good family pub.
