One night we went in, just to check if someone was there.... and we found Marco, the waiter, a very kind and funny guy. He explained it was a hotel really with a restaurant. He persuaded us to stay and try the food. We did. My girlfriend had a spaghetti with cheese and I had lasagna. The lasagna was good, but the spaghetti was not al dente. It went back to the kitchen and returned al dente but without taste (of cheese). A pity. The restaurant looks very good and trendy and has the potential to attract lots of customers. After the meal Marco showed us a couple of very trendy hotel rooms, really good quality indeed. Tip! Put some signs on the street to show that there is a restaurant, otherwise no one will know.
The most real and authentic Italian pizza you can ever enjoy in a great place.Thin and crispy pizza melts in your mouth as you feel a different level of service.
If you are in madeira and wish to eat italian, Rosso Pomodoro is the perfect place. There are 2 pomodoros, ie, one just infront of the Reid 's Palace next to the book store and the other futher west piornais (btw, not Papa Manuel). Both restaurants have a pleasant atmosphere and the service is fine. What differenciates this restaurant to others is definately the food: real italian pizzas made by italian cooks. The pizzas are thin and crispy with just the right ammount of ingredients (delicious hot salame, gorgonzola cheese, fresh mushrooms, italian crudo ham, etc). Most pizzas cost less than ten euros, and you can surely share one between two for lunch. Still regarding the service, we must compliment the italian chef for his kind attentiveness in relation to a simple misunderstanding. We asked for ham, but did not specify which one we wanted... As we ate, the chef came to our table and asked us if we were enjoying our meal. We told him it was great but the pizza did not come with crudo as we were expecting. In turn, the chef explained the difference between the two and in a few minutes surprised us with a plate with a large serving of crudo ham!! Needless to say, we were very thankfull. Rosso Pomodoro is a Must if you appreciate real italian pizzas. Make sure you visit this one because in madeira there are many restaurants that serve italian. Many are actually quite good, but not 'italian '. Btw, Papa Manuel serves 'madeiran ' pizzas with tons of ingredients on top. One pizza is really a heavy meal. Enjoy!!
