Shobu Japanese Cuisine - Fresno

Highly recommended! Hits the spot for ramen every time! Very nice workers and the owner is the sweetest! He comes and checks if everything is alright!

My friend and I tried this restaurant pre-COVID and had a pretty underwhelming experience. We gave it another chance a few weeks ago and were completely blown away with the significant improvements with food, customer service and overall dining experience. I can honestly say that this restaurant serves some of the best yaki soba and Japanese curry in town. I do wish, however, that there is more curry in my “curry” dish as I found myself left with way too much rice and not enough curry. Sashimi is pretty darn good too but we did get a really fishy piece of salmon, not sure if the chefs were aware. Despite this, we definitely look forward to returning to this restaurant. The owner and his staff are extremely welcoming and courteous!

Miso soup was ok. You can taste the flavor and the saltiness of the soup. The noodle wasn’t as soft as I would have liked it. A part of the noodle was still stuck in a clump. When I ate the half egg, the yolk was still a bit cold. I also ordered the OMG roll and Earthquake roll. Presentation was pretty but the taste wasn’t to my liking. It was a bit sweet and had too much filling like the imitation crab. Service was good though.

Definitely delicious. The service was amazing. They had so many dishes and appetizers to choose from. Definitely would come back.

We went to this restaurant based on the positive reviews on TA, one reviewer who who often travels to Japan also gave positive reviews. It was the worst sushi we have ever tasted. The sushi rice was tasteless, the sashimi also tasteless and cut too thick. We lived in Asia and also travelled to Japan, but eat at Japanese restaurants all over the world, this was truly terrible. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant is also not nice. Sorry I don’t usually give a bad reviews, but I have to do this so others avoid this experience and the restaurant improves.
