Contribuiți la feedbackThe English speaking world needs to discover this magical island, and its restaurant. We took the ZSG lake Boat from Rapperswil to Ufenau, a mere 12 minutes and about 8Fr a head. The boat, which tours the whole lake (Ufenau is the first stop), is swift and comfortable as well as gorgeous to look at. Disembark at the jetty and a short walk takes you up to the two small medieval churches, restored in recent years. The interiors are simple and stunning, the old frescoes and paintings still evident, if faded. The Island is a Haven of Quiet , so no swimming or camping is permitted. Visitors walk around in respectful groups with a noticeable lack of English speakers. On this idyllic isle, there is a well tended vineyard, some fields, and the modern highlight, a restaurant, the House of the Two Ravens (Die Haus zu den zwei Raben), with its speciality of gougons of fresh battered fish. DELICIOUS, and I thought the Brits knew all about battered fish. It 's more like a tempura batter, served with tartare sauce and lovely crusty bread. The two ravens symbol derives from the Einsedeln Monastery on the mainland, who have owned the island since early medieval times. We also enjoyed a beer of the same name. A point of trivia, Johanna Heusser Spyri, the lady who wrote the Heidi stories, is descended from the farmers (Hússer) who farmed the Island around 1350, as mentioned in the Book of Ufnau, at the Monastery. Discovering the island (and the fish) was a highlight of our trip.
Came here for dinner on a Ssnday evening, so glad to report it is a great place to eat! Had Aperol Spritz Beer, Green Salad with Egg, delicious. Wienerschnitzel with fries was superb! Redwine from the Kloster Einsiedeln a good fit, ambiente very cozy and our waiter Rafael a Pro and also very nice guy! Please make the pickup service for boaters happen soon as the harbour was almost full at 8 p.m. Will.come back many times for sure!
This is a self-service restaurant under heavy attack of guests at lunch time. You better visit it after rush hour at around 3 pm. Service and cooking is provided by hard-working local staff. The famous lake fish: Felchen knusperli fried in beer dough is delicious, salads are fresh and tasty. The outdoor seating under trees is an experience. A must. You reach the island in one hour and 45 minutes by boat from Zurich.
This place is famous for being located on a beautiful little island (Ufnau or Ufenau) in the Zurich See. Accessible only by ship, ferry or yachts. The restaurant is packed especially on weekends and for good reason. It is a most popular, self-service business most efficaciously managed. You wait in line but served with a smile and as quickly as possible. Then you move with your tray under the canopy and shadow of old platan trees. The Knusperli -little deep-fried little fish is delicious. It reminds of good fish and chips but it is served with fresh bread and green salad. Everything reflects plain food but well-done. Quality is the name of the game. This place shows how self-service could be best managed. It was a very hot day, unfavorable for a stroll around the island but we were happy with the food.
I had a gorgeous afternoon here in 2014 the views getting to the restaurant are amazing but the salad and the dress was just soo goood!!!
