We had to park in a car park some 100 meters from the accommodation and drag our cases over cobbles. The rather drab building where we stayed was just 10 rooms and was totally unmanned. The key to the outside door nearly took the skin off my thumb as I turned it because of the way the lock had been fixed. The staircase was smelly. There was no room numbered 310. In the end we decided it must be 3-10, counting the ground floor as floor 1. So we took up residence in Room 10 after getting the cases all the way up the stairs. The room was very basic with sloping ceiling so that we kept banging our heads. There were no shops around where we could get something for breakfast. We got out of the place as soon as possible in the morning and found an out-of-town garage which sold delicious filled rolls.
Price and quality does not match at all. At the dinner restaurant, I paid 230 kr. for half a (filled) potato, which was cold, un-seasoned and plain boring. I also got a tiny piece of marinated pork, which was dry, flavourless, fell off in lumps and wasn't even properly tender or tasty. My partner ordered a vegan risotto, and was served a sour and bitter porridge-like mix of wheat kernels and mushrooms. We sent it back, and next time she got a bowl with boiled wheat kernels, which was as dry as my cold potato, but at least with a few tasty pieces of mushrooms. We sent it out again, and apparently the chef gave up and made a mix salat instead. During this ordeal we could at least enjoy the good beers. At this point we gave up, canceled the dessert and walked to the nearby diner pizza place, where our hunger was satiated and the food tasted as expected compared to the price.
The culinary experience during my stay at Hotel Viking was one greatest. Both days we had the 3 course meal and the bar was set very high! The composition of fresh ingredients was incredible whilst managing to capture and include the local essence of Sæby. Last but not least the service during dinner was extraordinary very articulate, professional and a great ability to keep vicinity at its highest level. With my utter sincerity I recommend a stay at Hotel Viking combined with the 3 course dinner if you are looking for a relaxing and pleasant stay a long with a local culinary experience at its best.
This is the only Spa and Wellness center in Saeby but on a worldwide scale this is average in facilities and treatments.
We came here with my boyfriend to spend my birthday. We only took the spa and tapas, no room. So my experience only portrays the day. The entrance is very lush and beautiful, relaxing music and pleasant scent. The setup for dressing rooms and shower is interesting with high-quality shampoo and conditioner. But that's where most of the nice ended for me. The girl with dark hair in a ponytail did not possess a single muscle on her face that could squeeze a smile or a pleasant tone. She was very dull and lifeless. I didn't expect that from the spa that has been awarded across Denmark so many times, and it is also very pricey. As for the facilities. The pools were nice enough. The saunas didn't offer towels to sit on, which is extremely unhygienic and made them unusable. The outdoor pool was a little inconvenient to get to. Unfortunately, when we got there, the pool was completely filled with around 15 middle-aged men and a few women, probably a company party. They were intoxicated and kept belly flopping into the pool, but the staff never reacted. What is the point of an adult spa if you allow grown men to behave like kids? It was hard for my boyfriend and I to relax in the outdoor jacuzzi and have a conversation when it was so loud and water kept splashing on us. And there were cameras so the staff could have intervened. When we got the tapas, they were premade in plastic packages. This was extremely disappointing, and we had to go to a separate longue to eat them. There was no water dispenser in the lounge, so we would have to go downstairs for it. The food was okay, but the tapas itself was poorly constructed as it had 8 different cuts of meat, but no vegetables or fruit to balance the flavour. We also received bread, but no butter. This is Denmark, no? Drinks were also extremely pricey, which I found hilarious considering you already paid a lot to get in. All in all, I would not recommend this spa for someone who cares for things like luxury and standards. I would recommend it for sure when it is 30-40% off, for then it is just about worth the price. A lot of the locker rooms were broken, and so was my bracelet as well, so I suspect management has just become lazy after winning some awards.
