Maxwell's Steak Seafood - Fredericton

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with dinner on the back deck at Maxwell's. It was very special! The meal was great and the venue (overlooking the river on a beautiful late summer evening) was picture perfect. But what really stood out was the service: it was truly outstanding! From the seating by a courteous receptionist, to the waiting staff thanks for the wonderful down home hospitality! To the chef! WOW the food was amazing every succulent bite was delicious, perfectly cooked and presented! The sauce was to die for! This was my second visit to Maxwell since September 2022. My first visit was exceptional and I was excited to go back. This visit was not so exceptional. My dinner guest and I ordered the shrimp skewers, bacon wrapped scallops and Maxwell Caesar salad as appetizers to share. The salad contained no parmesan at least none that could be seen or tasted), the shrimp was average, but the bacon wrapped scallops were very good perhaps a bit overcooked as they were a slightly chewy, but still good. The short ribs were underwhelming. I had had them on my first visit and they were excellent, so I was looking forward to having them again. Unfortunately this time they were very fatty which made them chewy instead of tender and falling apart like they were for my first experience. It felt like they were running low and we got the less than desirable cuts that were left over. It was such a let down. I don't know if they are having issues sourcing quality ingredients now, but the difference between this dining experience and my last one was significant and disappointing. The ambiance and service was wonderful, but considering what we received for the price we paid, I'm doubtful we will return.
