Being one of the oldest Äpfelwein Inns in Frankfurt it is an absolute MUST when visiting Frankfurt. Sure, it is really not in the middle of Frankfurt but a little outside of the centre of the city. And parking is really a nightmare if you come here later than 16:00 H. Because, as the parking lots are rare, the people living here have priority and if you would leave your car at a place ussually reserved for local people you risk to receive a ticket. But there are some parking garages nearby, you might not need to walk more than 300 m to come here. Do it. The parking rates are really low, you pay not more than 1,00 EUR per hour. Your car is secure. And you avoid to receive a ticket, coz you never know how long a policeman might work some days. : The entry is really not overwhelming. Its a simple entry as for a garage. Only the tremendous neon sign shows you where you have to go. From outside you see already the kind of living room where you will take your meal and have some Äpfelwein today. Here you can have the national drink, the Äpfelwein. All people who take such a drink the first time do not like it. Coz it really is very sour comparing it to a beer or a wine. And if you are not used, it can cause you some stomach malaise. But I asure you, only the first time. Being a kind of cidre, it does only not taste such sweet as cidre does but very much stronger sour. From second time on, you will like it and prefer it against a beer or a whitewine. Coz it hasnt such high alcohol volume and so you can enjoy more of it. You can also drink a beer or a coke. But I beleive that this is not the aim of someone coming here. The dishes offered are all typical Frankfurt. You might take the most known, Frankfurter Schnitzel , which comes with Grüne Soße , a sauce with 6 types of herbes typical for Frankfurt. Or the typical cheese dish in Frankfurt, the Handkäse mit Musik . This is a piece of Handkäs cheese with onions marinade, bread and butter. You first eat it, the music comes later on (coz of the onions . I could tell hours how good it tastes. Better: try it yourself. Youll be amazed! Don 't expect french huit cuisine, this is true local people mum 's kitchen! The prices are truly moderate. You sit here beside people you didn 't knew before. But you will have jokes and drink with them and leave this place as friends. Its ABSOLUTELY RECOMENDABLE TO RESERVE. Just at fair seasons this inn is really crowded full. You might not get a place to take a seat.
Found this place venturing round Frankfurt looking for somewhere interesting to eat. This isn 't fine dining, this is like eating at your German Auntie 's house, and we loved it. The restaurant is very traditional in both looks and cuisine. There 's a slight oriental feel to it as well. The food was delicious, I had sauerkraut soup to start which was sublime, packed with flavour, and a grilled slab of pork with buttered mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. The pork was huge for the price! My girlfriend had breaded Camembert for starter which she loved, and a German Meatloaf which was actually more of a herby sausage patty, again, absolutely delicious. The portions were probably too generous as we couldn 't finish everything (and I 'm a stickler for not wasting food) All this with a litre of beer and a small coke was only €42, cheapest meal we 've had on this trip, and one of the best!
This was probably our best restaurant experience in Europe... The food was sumptuous! I had a turkey with herb butter and salad.. the husband had a rabbit stew... Quantities were great! I just loved my food... and not to forget the apfelwiein! Yummy!
