This bakery sells variants of breads, cookies (even eggless cookies), and cakes. I was interested in their chinese cake. It was written that the cake had coconut and rice cake fillings. Since I love rice cake, so I didnt mind giving it a try. The outer part of the cake was crunchy. It was similar as puff pastry. The inner part was moist, chewy and soft. It was the rice cake which gave such texture. It tasted just right, not too sweet so I could enjoy it. It was good and cheap as well. 2.40$ for one cake. However I couldnt taste the coconut, (I expected to taste the shredded coconut along with the rice cake as the filling) I wasnt sure if it was supposed to be two kinds of chinese cake with different filling or one chinese cake with a filling of combination of coconut and rice cake.
Was intending to pay a visit to my Indian grocery store around the corner from here to find it had closed after 30 years of trade! Saw this place was rather dubious about the coffee but as it turned out I was pleasantly surprised. Coffee was Robert Timms was really smooth strong without the double shot. Cake of the day was tiramisu, delicately moist coffee liqueur sponge with layers of rich custard. Very pleasant staff excellent prices
As for the cake itself, I absolutely loved it. I found the texture to be far smoother but lighter than the other asian cakes I've had, and the Cake:Cream:Fruit ratio to be near perfect. The fruit was really fresh and sweet. Its noteworthy that the owner didnt sell me the mango cake because they were not certain they would get ripe sweet mangoes, I found this to be very ethical and refreshing in a commercial context.
Sacher Torte that blew my mind!. My love and I attend this quirky place as regularly as possible it's a special romantic spot for us, where we share a pot of tea, or a coffee and an Asian bakery item in peace. Often there are one or two interesting Valley characters hanging out but mostly it is very quiet. Where can you get a pot of tea for two for $2 70? On a whim one day I bought a Sacher Torte from the display and almost immediately regretted it. Why would an Asian bakery know how to make a Sacher Torte? How wrong could we be best Sacher Torte ever moist liqueur centre, fresh chocolate cake and icing. Sensational!
