Taco Tico - Fort Dodge

A friend who grew up in Fort Dodge often raves about how great Tico Taco is, so I decided to give it a try. The restaurant has a somewhat outdated vibe, but it seemed clean and well-maintained. When I asked the woman taking my order about what toppings were included on a taco, I could tell I was inconveniencing her. After she replied, I ordered two tacos without tomatoes, which was met with a not-so-friendly "Anything else?" Despite her demeanor, I was surprised to see that there was no one in line behind me. My food came out quickly, but I found myself disappointed; the quality and taste were comparable to or even lower than Taco John’s. I walked away questioning my friend's fond memories of the place and wondering why I hadn’t just chosen the taco food truck parked in the Hobby Lobby lot instead.

The dining area is gloomy and unclean, with no space to wait for takeout orders. Honestly, the outdated decor from the 1990s is just cringe-worthy every time I pass by. The food is as disappointing and flavorless as the staff is unprofessional. Speaking of the staff, they lack any sense of urgency and don't even apologize when the food is late or arrives in the wrong order. The enthusiastic support from so many locals makes me wary of engaging with them too often. It's quite off-putting.

I grew up in Indiana, and we used to visit this restaurant weekly. I had no idea they were still around! The deluxe taco and the crispy chips tasted just as I remembered from all those years ago. The drive-thru service was quick and friendly.

Much better than fast food. Nice, fresh, greasy food. Very tasty! If that's what you're into, you'll like it! Only been there a few times, but I've been happy with every visit.

This beloved local eatery is the place to be when you need that taco fix. Especially on Tuesday nights when you see the love from the line of cars reaching around to building to get that Taco Tuesday fix. I appreciate that I can eat there with my eating issues and enjoy that yum for the tum with some of the items on their menu. I enjoy that when the media comes to town for stories, the politician events, before they leave they just have to get some Tico. It's a tradition you know.
