Old English Fish Chips is a fantastic new addition to Forestville. The grilled fish simply melts in your mouth, the chips are perfectly crispy, and the burgers are just delicious.
This restaurant had a promising start with a traditional English chippy feel, but after new ownership, the standards dropped. I was not impressed with their basic fish and chips, as the fish they use is too soft to hold the batter well. Despite offering a variety of other fish on their website and through delivery services, they never seem to have them available. During my last order, the delivery driver had to call me to inform me that Barramundi was the only non-Basa fish they had, which is disappointing for a fish shop. I have given them a few chances since the new owners took over, but I now prefer to get my fish and chips from the chicken shop opposite, as they do a much better job. It's a shame to see such a decline after such a promising start.
Mushy fish but somewhat crispy chips, so the opposite of English. The batter was the worst thing, soggy and oily, that plus the strange inside of the chips made me think it was cooked at low temp in old oil. The prices are low for a large serve but the more I ate, the worse it tasted, so I couldn't eat enough to make it good value.
So disappointed! Working late on a cold rainy night, really fancied fish and chips. Ordered the flathead and chips. It was over cooked, the fish was tough and the chips left a foul taste. Our family has given this place plenty of opportunities to produce a quality reduction. Enough! We won't bother again.
