Our server, Remy, was amazing. She was attentive to our drinks and checked on us regularly. Despite having at least 10 tables to take care of at the same time, she handled everything perfectly. Unfortunately, the table next to us was giving her a hard time about their food being slow, which was not her fault. It was possibly the busiest day I've seen at the restaurant in the two years I've lived here. We will definitely be returning next New Year's and requesting Remy. Hopefully, she didn't take the complaints from the neighboring table personally. Some people just like to find reasons to complain, and unfortunately, servers often bear the brunt of it.
My wife and I had the pleasure of having our son, his wife, and their 3 children in town for New Years this year. (ages 2, 3½ boys, and a 5 year old girl). We all wanted to go see the James Island Park Christmas lights but have some dinner first. We live in Goose Creek and wanted some seafood. So, we figured we would try something on Folly Beach. We got parking right in front of the Washout, so we figured it was a sign. It was kinda early for dinner, like 5:30, so it was not busy. We sat down right away. The waitress was right on the money. We needed 2 booster seats and a highchair, drinks all around, and appetizers. We got 1lb Shrimp and Crab Dip with Pita bread. Both were excellent! Then we ordered dinner, seafood platters, shrimp grits, and grilled flounder sandwich. All were fresh, hot, and delicious. The prices were reasonable and the portions were very generous. It's a great place! Go enjoy!
After a trip to the beach, the 5 adults and 2 puppies in our group decided to relax over a late lunch. We picked The Washout because it had a parking lot. After parking, we got a picnic table outside (because of the 2 puppies). We ordered calamari and 2 bowls of she crab soup as appetizers, and both were scrumptious. Several in our group thought the she crab soup was the best they'd had at any Charleston restaurant and would now get it from The Washout on future visits. Everyone got something different, and each person was very happy with their selection, though the lobster grilled cheese seemed to be the overall best pick. Our server was excellent. She brought us water and bowls for the pups, lemons for our waters, checked back often, asked how to handle the check, and addressed all of our needs except she wasn't able to get the outdoor heater working. Fortunately, we all had jackets and were sitting in the sun. The only thing that would have improved our experience was if the heater was working. Other than that, the service was excellent, the food was superb, and the convenience of close, no-cost parking makes The Washout the best restaurant on Folly that serves seafood dishes, especially if you have a larger group and multiple vehicles.
The restaurant had fantastic music, delicious food, generous portions, and the staff was efficient and welcoming. A group of 15 people walked in and they were accommodated without any issues.
After spending most of the day at Foley Beach, we stopped here for a snack. We got hot wings and fried macaroni and cheese balls. Both were very tasty. I got a mixed drink and it was very good as well.
