Despite this, we were sat down in a cozy nook, with no reservations. Our meal was freshly prepared, and was mushroom and truffle themed, for each dish. The meal was prepared (as we understood) using whatever fresh ingredients were available that day which added to the charm. The method was simple to let the flavors speak for themselves. Prior to starting the meal the chef and host brought out the generous variety of mushrooms and black truffles to show us what our meal would be based on. He also took a bottle of red wine off the wall, which he thought would work well with the meal and owned it for us. Each dish he brought out was outstanding and generous. We had an antipasto consisting of a fried mozzarella, fried mushroom, prosciutto, and crostini with black truffle spread. This was followed by two different mushroom and truffle pastas, and a secondi of beef and truffles. Finally, desert and coffee. The meal also included water. In all, we paid €60 Amazing value, quality, and experience. We would absolutely return, and recommend this to any visitors who venture near Foligno. As others said, the place is about 30 mins away from Folingo, and requires a car to get there. Delicious!!!
I took the opportunity to visit this restaurant together with a friend whilst my wife had already flown back to Australia. Check the google directions before booking for a meal because it will take not less than 20 minutes to arrive there from the old SS3 Flaminia. I previously read on the latest Mangiarozzo Guide why going there would have been a fascinating experience, but after just now reading something more about the family on Wikipedia, I'm more determined to go there again in the future. The ambience remains the same as an old italian trattoria trading 40 years ago, apart from a few artworks painted by Maurizio hanging on the walls. The dishes offered are not many, if someone is used to attending resorts or touristy huge restaurants that person will be disappointed until they receive the food. Our meal started with a succulent and abundant antipasto including mature cheese and hand cut prosciutto di Norcia. Pappardelle with porcini followed as middle course. It has been extraordinary to see fresh picked porcini mushrooms in the hot month of July which was not rainy at all. Then we received braised lamb accompanied with rocket salad and shaved parmigiano. Homemade dessert, coffee and a good bottle of red from the Amelia hills completed the journey. 50 euro was the total cost surprising us beyond all the good expectations. At the time of saying goodbye, Maurizio kindly offered us a book about the prehistoric remains found in the surrounding area about 26 years ago giving our trip a cultural appendix.
