I have been a loyal customer at this restaurant for some time, but my last two visits have been very disappointing. When I got home and opened the bag, I had to throw away my purchase because the fish smelled bad and the quality was not up to par as it used to be. The first time this happened, I thought it was just a one-time thing, but my most recent visit was the same experience. When I feel the need to buy chicken just in case the fish is bad, it's time to find a new place to eat. I don't mind paying for good quality, but I do mind paying and then having to throw things away. I am disappointed.
Always fresh quality cold seafood to take home and cook/create dishes with. They are good at suggesting fish to match certain recipes and have fish bones for making stock which they are happy to give you.
Good quality seafood (which I guess is what counts) but I experienced very rude service by two different staff members here, so I won't be back. Good customer service is very important, and when the Vic Market is so close it's not hard to choose another retailer.
A family with a fishing heritage have owned and run Canals Seafoods for decades. Like many Australians I had little experience cooking seafood. This family gave me the confidence to begin. Not only do I ask stupid questions, so do many bachelor customers. The staff educate without being patronising. I will never forget the day Peter demonstrated on the spot how to de-vein a prawn as every recipe suggests. Been buying cooked prawns ever since. Carol will even supply recipes for seafood dishes. Quality is exceptional and Canals is well known in gourmet circles. Prices are value for money but not cheap. Canals is not a restaurant.
